Hello mlhh, I am brand new here and I just embarked on my long hair journey. My last haircut was on 12/15/14. I decided to do this for many reasons. First and foremost I have been a longhair at heart from the time I was born. I never wanted to cut my hair, and it was something that I bickered with my parents about for years. They actually used haircuts as punishment for bad behavior/bad grades. I just turned 21 in November, and I am slowly becoming financially independent. I figured it was time to make my own decisions and tell my parents no to their numerous requests for me to cut my hair.
I came here today to start my journey as well as ask you all for some advice. I will attach a picture of my current hair. I was hoping you gents could identify my hair type and let me know of your insight on how I should go about growing it. I shampoo every other day (today is my off day) and I condition every day.
Looking forward to being a part of this awesome forum!

Welcome! I too have been a longhair at heart from a very young age. My parents and religion forced conformity for a long time before I finally broke free.
At this point, my advice would be to just let it grow. You may want to trim the back at some point down the road but don't worry about that for now.
You may find my blog in which I detailed my journey to long hair of interest.
Starting Out
Thanks for the insight Jason, I will absolutely read your blog. I figured just letting it go would be the best way. My concern was that the top of my hair is so much longer than the sides. Its good to see that you have achieved such fantastic results in your long hair journey.
From the looks of your hair you have an excellent chance of
growing some very awesome long hair.
It looks like your previous hair style was one of those
disconnected undercut types which are cool but long hair is even
cooler. Just let it grow!!
thanks MG!
That is the plan, I will be growing it out, and keeping the forum updated. I am infact guilty of having one of those styled undercuts, but Im exstatic about returning to my long haired roots!

Hey JP Colleran,
Welcome to the tribe, bro.
You are a born long hair. You state that you have wanted to let your hair grow long all of your life. Having long hair is part of who you are. I embrace you a bro.
I water wash my hair almost every day. I shampoo my hair on Sun. and Wed. I condition my hair on even numbered calendar days. I have been letting my hair grow freely since 3/9/11.
Welcome to the family, bro.
Your long haired bro,
Raymond
Raymond, thanks for the warm welcome, and the advice, looking forward to this journey and I'm glad to know there are quite a few people who have similar feelings about being born a long hair!

Hey JP,
You're welcome, bro.
If you're a born long hair you know that having long hair is not just a matter of grooming and looks, although a guy with long hair looks awesome. Long hair on a bro makes him look sovereign, regal, majestic, beautiful. If you are a born long hair you know that your hair is part of your identity; it's part of who you are. You also know that this has been true all of your life. We form fundamental points of identity about ourselves early on in life, even in the womb eg.: nationality, gender identity, sexual orientation, racial identity, . . .etc. You know that you area long hair and to cut your hair would be like disfiguring your face.
Keep us posted with updates. We're here to help, give advise, share our experiences of our journey, encourage.
Enjoy the journey.
You're one (1) of us now, dude.
Your long haired bro,
Raymond
Welcome to the journey for long hair farming.
I've had long hair since 1964, I don't shampoo the hair,
I condition it once a week.
I posted a link below of a barber who usss bad haircuts as a form of punishment.
The best way to grow it is to avoid the dreaded haircut at all costs.
Haircut as punishment
Hey JP Colleran,
Are you a student at Carnnegie Mellon University?
I had a heart catheterization at the Arizona Heart Hospital on Mon., Jan. 19th. The doctor said that my heart and my arteries are strong.
Your long haired bro,
Raymond
Raymond,
Im actually a student at Central Michigan University. Carnegie Mellon is a great school, I only wish I was gifted enough to attend that institution. I study Computer Information Systems and work as an IT analyst for CMU's College of Medicine. Good to hear you are in good health!!

Well, your hair looks thick and wavy, both good signs. Full speed ahead lol.
Hi J.P.,
Welcome to the board! You have definitely come to the right place! You will find much information and encouragement for growing your hair here! I am very happy you have made the choice to follow your heart's desire to grow your hair.
As far as your hair type, you really need to let it grow a little longer to tell. Sometimes your hair will appear straight when short, but starts to get curly/wavier with length. But it looks like your hair might have some wave to it when longer. Either way, I believe your hair will look great with more length! Your washing/conditioning schedule seems okay. You may have to modify it as your hair gets longer. It all depends on your hair type and oiliness. Hope this helps! Please stay well my friend and stay away from scissors!
