This is my first post here, so I'm so excited I've actually began! My hair is at about 3 months of growth so far, and I just realized how fast it grows! Anyways, I will probably post my first pic at about 6 months, which seems like forever away. I've always wanted to grow my hair long, and my first huge goal is to get it to my shoulders or past by the time I graduate from high school. My biggest goal is to get my hair to around 2 feet in college. Thanks for reading!
I was a beginner too just one year ago. Now it's flowing over my shoulders and near the end of the "awkward phase" which for me means that when I a ponytail and the wind blows, I still get a mess due to the shorter hairs pulling themselves out of the ponytail. The year passed quickly.
It will for you too. Depending on your temperament, you will enjoy the looks from people in public places as you break from "short hair orthodoxy". It takes nerve and guts, and above all living you life day by day.
Enjoy the hair farming, and don't forget to send in a photo, even if your hair is still at the beginning.

Thanks, Anthony! It is a little nerve-wracking, because of how long-haired men are treated. But it's great, because my friends are very supportive of this, and my mom too "but it seems like she changes her mind every day!" I think I'll post just a pic of how long I would like it to be by the time I graduate, but who knows.
A lot of it is how you carry yourself. If you project confidence and that this is the real you, people will pick up on that. I have had very few negative reactions to my long hair even during the growing out stage. I think society has come a long way too even in the last 15 years.
It is thanks to this board that I made a good start, and faced the world like a true Englishman, with a stiff upper lip! Seriously, I just live life and refuse to feel humiliated by stares or other thinly veiled expressions of intolerance. Here in France, there are few.
I have had the usual stuff from my wife and the idea that I would be better with some kind of "page boy" style with the hair cut above the shoulders. I just resisted, and now, whether she likes it or not, she just has to accept the fact.
We need to be positive and avoid looking for trouble. If we are confident, others will respect our choice. I have no problem with my family and with my Bishop. I tested him by saying jokingly that I gave up barbers shortly after I stopped smoking. His reply was "I never would have guessed!" There was some irony in that, but there is no problem.
Another essential thing is humour. Be the butt of jokes and laugh at yourself. That makes all the difference. We haven't to take ourselves seriously, otherwise that's where the trouble comes from.

My blog
Thank you so much for your inspiration! Really, you have no idea how grateful I am. I guess the next chapter of my journey is to wait. And wait. And WAIT.
Hi Erik,
Glad to have you here. I'm sure your goal will be accomplished. And I'm sure you will enjoy the looks and compliments you get when it gets longer. Believe me, it is worth the effort.

So glad to hear you have begun the journey, please do have patience and stay the course, it will happen. Allow it to go through each stage and embrace each stage. Take care and do keep us updated on your progress. I attempted to grow my hair 3 times before succeeding and when I finally did succeed it was because I began to allow this site to document my progress and encourage me.
