So I had discussed long hair with a friend, and how men with long hair generally are not percieved very well in a work environment, and my dad overhead us talking, and I never told him about this before, since he's sort of conservative when it comes to hair length. He came up to me, and basically agreed with me, and thought that it was not good for an employer to not hire a man due to his long hair. I guess it's not as much of a voodoo subject around here as I thought!
Nice!
If someone is neat and presentable, why not hire them based on their job skills. What an idea!
Similar to the way my father felt. Now I first started growing out my hair in 1964, after viewing the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show. My parents were watching and did not say a thing regarding their hair. (which by standards of only a few years later, was not all that long) My father quietly objected at first. but then he relented and asked that I keep it clean and combed. Which I had no problem doing. Dad was a contractor and the late 60s, what with the antagonism of "Long haired Hippie pinko fags" as espoused by many of the "Hardhat" crowd, was a bit problematic for him. it likely helped he was the boss, but I never had an issue with my parents over my hair....Politics we went a couple rounds over. but again, time softened his stance on that, as well. Your father sounds like an interesting man. I hope you have many conversations with him. My father and I had many. I miss them.
