Hello all,
My name is Fr. Jacob Maurer - I used to post here several years ago and started browsing the forums again when I started growing out my hair again 2 1/2 years ago.
I wanted to thank all of you for providing a forum for support & advice. I enjoy coming by and appreciate the fraternity that is here.
Blessings on you all, especially as we approach the Easter celebration.
Peace,
Fr. Maurer
Hi Fr. Maurer,
Happy Holy Saturday to you! I have a week until my Paschal celebration. I am about to enter Holy Week.
Welcome I am new here as well. Growing my hair back out again. It is only 4in right now. I made the mistake of cutting it for a job several years back.
If you don't mind me asking what church do you belong to? I see an icon behind you in the picture.
Hi Sym!
Welcome to the forum! Hang in there with the growing out. It seems to take forever, and then one day you realize it's actually long. Worth the wait, lengthy though it is. And once through the awkward stage, it is fairly easy to manage!
I'm a Latin Rite (Roman) Catholic serving in the Seattle archdiocese. If you're familiar with the area, I'm at Holy Rosary & Saint Joseph parishes in Tacoma. I was introduced to icons during a two and a half month pilgrimage to the Holy Land during my seminary training. The Eastern and Orthodox rites gave me a real appreciation for the art and architecture of the East. The icon in the photo was a gift from a bi-ritual marriage (Byzantine & Latin) I participated in last year. They heard I was particularly fond of Saint Anthony and the rest is history!
I forget sometimes that there are several calendars in play around the Lenten/Easter celebrations. I hope Holy Week is blessed for you & all those celebrating with you.
Peace,
Fr. Maurer
Yeah, the awkward stage is kind of annoying. Been through it before and in it right now. Seems to last about a year for me.
Not familiar with Washington state at all. Serving two parishes you must have your hands full. Awesome that you got to visit the Holy Land and became familiar with the eastern and western rites. It all can be very fascinating to see and participate in them. My wife is an iconographer, so Icons are a huge part of our life, on top of being Orthodox!
And Peace to your spirit as well,
Sym
Sym! Christ is in our midst. im orthodox too. pascha is almost here cant wait! keep the faith brother.
It's a pretty amazing gift to be able to write icons! I only know of a couple folks in my tradition that do - I know it takes both talent & knowledge! Good on your wife.
Blessings in these last days of Holy Week!
Thanks so much for posting.... and Happy Easter to you as well!

- Ken in San Francisco
Thanks Ken! I know I've got 'father' in my name, but you seem to be one of the fathers of the board! Thanks for all you do around here.
Sorry for the flurry of delayed responses - I am on vacation in Hawaii. Plenty of us longhaired guys here in paradise, but not much access to the interwebs. Probably better that way anyway!
Hi Fr. Maurer,
Welcome back to the forum and thanks for the blessings! You and your hair look great! Hopefully you won't stay away so long from now on! Please keep us updated on your progress and stay well my friend!
Ted
Thanks Ted! I'm glad to be back and for the forum.
