....is the difference in rate of growth?
...I'm pretty sure a fingernail or toenail will NOT
grow no 6 inches in ONE year--I hope! But they do seem to
grow faster than hair.
Maybe it they do grow as fast but stop?
Fingernails apparently grow at the rate of 6 mm a month. That would be 72mm a year, which would be just under 3"

OK...so that makes fingernails grow at exactly 1/2 the rate of HAIR!
aaaaaaah.... THE MYSTERY IS SOLVED!
Thanks! hmmmmmmm..don't think I'll be a Long-Fingernailed Man though
Sorry, old chap, I got a bit mixed up. It's actually 2mm a month - which makes it just under 1" in a year.
1" is very long for a nail. I once grew my little finger nail about 3/4 inch, and it made my little finger as long as my ring finger
Shoot... I WISH my hair grew as fast as my nails. My hair only grows three inches a year (mid-back after seven years, from a crewcut), but I have to trim my nails every 3-4 days, or they interfere with my guitar-playing!
Maybe if you use your hair for the strings....
