Awesome! For all the years I've been growing my hair out I'd never thought to look to see if others had things to say on the subject. My sincere Thanks to whoever started this and all who support it!
It's been 18 years pretty much this week since I had a military style haircut, trimmed only a couple times and gave that up as bad habit.
Am going to try to post a Pic from last summer when my wife and I took a smoke break while riding the Blue Ridge Parkway in western NC. I will get a better pic up soon (closer-up), when I get home off the road, I am a trucker.
Hey Trucker Don,
Welcome to the tribe, bro.
Your hair looks awesome. I look forward to seeing more pics.
Welcome to the family, bro.
Your long haired bro,
Raymond
Thank you for the welcoming to the longhair family!
I am still amazed that so many people come to a common place made especially for men who value their hair as an identity source, a foundation for the 'self', like I do.
I salute you all and look forward to being part of a larger family that understands the value of declaring our personal independence and each being uniquely individual.
I am curious though if it is acceptable or normal here to write a quick bio so everyone gets a better idea who we are when we join or if that is just too much info that doesn't really matter? I have read many posts and replies but don't see any bio's yet people know particulars about each other. Does that just happen over time by accumulated tidbits? Just curious. Thanks for any guidance.
Hi Don,
Wow, awesome long hair you've got there!
We do have a Directory of Users. We ask that you post for about a month and then you can submit an application if you wish. You can then post with an avatar photo and have a brief description attached to your name in the directory. In general, we get to know each other by posting and learning about each other's lives both in respect to having long hair and also, in time, in a more general sense.
Many users have their avatars link to a specific site or blog of theirs as mine does. Welcome to our community!
Jason
Thanks Jason for the reply, info and compliment.
I followed your suggestion and looked at your blog to see how that works. Seems I could learn a bit from/about everyone by clicking their avatar and that answers the question too about how everyone gets to know each other.
Thanks again.
Another Pic from same motorcycle ride. No, it's not a Harley!
LOVE IT: ( ECHO-Echo-echo ) ~~:0)~
great looking hair! Cool!
Hey Welcome aboard! Nice to see someone else who enjoys the Blue Ridge Parkway! I drove through that general area of North Carolina last year by Grandfather Mountain on the back road there. Beautiful area. Another beautiful drive is down Route 23 from Tennessee into North Carolina over the Appalachian Divide. If you hit Route 23 in early morning right as the sun is coming up as you go through eastern Tennessee and into western North Carolina the road is clear open and the views are breathtaking.
I enjoy driving and exchanging road stories, so if you want to share trip information I am all ears. It is always nice to be able to plan the next adventure and road stories always have a unique quality to them. Happy trails dude.
Thanks for the tip on hwy 23. Sorry I missed this post till now. I've ridden extensively on the Parkway in NC and a little in Va, loved it all. Rode The Tail of the Dragon some years ago, 318 curves in 11 miles, with my brother, another longhair. That is hwy 129 going from NC into TN, but I bet you know that already. Are you driving a car or on a bike? Tail of the Dragon would be awesome, beautiful, intense in a car too but gotta watch for bikes everywhere.
Hi there Trucker Dan, thanks for the great introduction and terrific pics!!!
Brief history of MLHH:
This site was originally started by a man name Victor (temporarily forgetting his last name at the moment; but you can go back into the Archives and find out more info). Several people had their talented hand at helping make this site what it is today, including a long-term computer tech guy named Bill Choisser (you can read his article "On Being A Longhair" in the LINKS section). Lots of guys helped out as Moderators over the years, including 2 that became President of MLHH (Justin first, then Kevin, back around 2006 - '07 or '08 or so); but it's our current Moderation Crew and Tech guy that still keeps this place running smoothly.
I hope that little bit of info helps...
And before I forget to say it: WELCOME to MLHH!!!
- Ken in San Francisco, CA
Didn't Victor drive a taxi cab, I thought? (Keeping on theme, here!)
Pull on in, set your brakes, sit at the bar and let me pour you a cup of that good ole truck stop that is strong enough to fill in a pothole. I came in off of the road 5 years ago now and have been doing local shuttle work ever since. My hair journey is just a little longer than yours, next month marks 17 years since my last trim. It has been about 24 years now since I sported that awful military cut that was mandatory for the sons of my father. It's been a good trip and I wouldn't go back for nothing in the world.
Welcome home brother,
Daniel
I want to thank everyone for welcoming me here, I think I'm going to like being here.
Daniel thanks for the great welcome and offer for the pot-hole filler. I run team with my wife. We make pretty much the same run each week, from NC to Cali and back. About 5500 to 6000 miles depending... We take anything going out so we can bring produce home. 2 days (a little less actually) out, a day delivering and getting loaded, 2 more days going home then take 36 to 48 hours off and then do same thing next week on same days.
Finally loaded and heading home so gotta get these wheels rolling. I'd post a pic of the truck but am already off-topic for too long so maybe another time, very nice rig though.
Pose with your awesome hair and the truck picture becomes automatically on-topic!
CDL here, but always public transit: buses, then streetcars, now training, but really, I still miss being in the seat!
...trucks are cool! Please post! Never mind "off-topic"! We and our moderators here are very forgiving...
Roll on! :-)
Don
Sounds like a good gig you have there. Do post a pick of your rolling office, I would love to see it.
I move cheese all day long from the Kraft plant here in Springfield, Mo to the underground storage and bulk cheese back to the plant. Round trip, 14 miles. I will generally do 6 to 7 round trips a day for 3 days a week. Then on the weekends I never leave the plant, but play dispatcher on those days. I'll put in a total of 50 hours per week. I don't work directly for Kraft, but for a small trucking company that is contracted to Kraft to handle all the shuttle shipments. Of the 20 drivers and staff here, there is currently one other longhair other than myself. (see what i did there to keep this on topic) One of the son's of my company's owner sported long hair for quite awhile, but has since shortened it to about shoulder length.
Roll on brother,
Daniel
OK But I don't yet have a pic with my hair in it ... but I will soon
Still rolling home, checking in here from OK City
Glad you found this site, Don. Nice mane. Welcome.
Glad you found this site, Don. Nice mane. Welcome.
Hi Trucker Don,
First of all, I would like to thank you all for making sacrifices to be on the road delivering our various products! I have much respect for truckers! You guys and gals keep the world moving! And welcome to the board! Your hair is looking great and I look forward to your future updates! I have enjoyed viewing your photos posted here!
Please be safe on the road and be well my friends!
Ted
Hi Ted, thanks for the kind words and for including my wife in your well wishes. We are together 24/7 so she knows everything I've said on this board. I am very lucky in that she has always supported me and my long hair, she loves it. It's not easy for a girly girl to live out of a truck but she does it I think to keep me out of trouble and to make sure no other girl is playing with my hair.
I have dragged her all over this Nation including a trip (in november 2005) to Anchorage Alaska. Have pictures of me filling our drink cooler with snow in upper British Columbia, long hair flying in the wind.
She's a good sport about always being on the road and great company. I say all this about her so the board members begin to understand me and why I have long hair, my wife loves it, says it's sexy!
I hope everyone else on the board has or finds a partner that appreciates the person and their hair.
Thanks again Ted for the welcome and the well wishes.
Hey man, your hair looks awesome. You should be very proud. I'm looking forward to growing my hair just like you. It'll be a while, but guys like you gimme the inspiration I need!
Cheers.
