Hey all!
Do you guys have any tips on the awkward stage? I just started using FX surf paste because my bangs curl up onto my forehead and get annoying ha ah. Other than that I've been growing it with ease. I'm just trying to be prepared for the upcoming months when the mullet phase sets in. I recently bought some elastic headbands to keep it out of my face when working out (even though I don't need it yet).
Please do help!
I have recent memories of my awkward phase! In only 2 months, I will arrive at 2 years since my last cut.
We all have different ways of coping for work, around the house and when doing sports or exercise. A head band like what footballers (at least in England) use is useful before you get long enough hair for a ponytail. You can wear a beanie in cold weather. My philosophy has always been never to expect my hair to be perfect at all times.
There are two possible approaches: trimming to avoid the "mullet" phenomenon - or no trimming and leave it to nature despite the "layered" look. I went for the latter.
People here have all sorts of ideas according to their experience. You seem to have quite "orderly" hair.
I wish you patience getting through the first year and a half.

Anthony,
Thank you so much! Do you regret not trimming up the back to prevent a mullet? I think I would rather have the layered look, but I'm wondering if it really helps that much to trim the back.
For my own hair, I have just let it grow naturally. "Je ne regrette rien" - as Edith Piaf used to sing in this country! I have never had the impression of a mullet when looking in the mirror.

Sure do don't try so hard let it blow in the wind
There isn't much you can do beyond hair bands, beanies and bandanas. You can use gel and wax to help control it, but in the end it's all about learning to live with it.
Once it's long enough, you can tie it into a half tail which does help.
I had my last haircut in 2004 and don't regret it. I opted for the layered look while going through the awkward stage. The main advantage to that is you can tie your hair up sooner if it's all the same length - plus I was never a fan of the bobbed look.
You'll go through a lot of frustration, but bear with it. It's worth it in the end.
