I saw an article about a young boy donating his knee length hair. While I'm disappointed that he cut it off, it was thoughtful of him to donate it since he did cut it. The link to the article should be included.
Boy cuts knee length hair
Hey Jacob,
I hate to throw cold water on this "feel good" gesture but I'll never understand the connection of cutting off ones long hair and donating it to a cause that will not cure the disease in question.Really that's all it is but an attempt to feel as if your making a difference. If a patient loses their hair due to treatment there is nothing wrong with making wigs with synthetic hair. That way both parties keep or get their hair and everyone's happy :) Cheers

My feelings exactly.
From military hair to sorta long and then to have been bald shaved for 6 years daily before I got my head on straight and now into my 4 anniversary year of no cuts or trims. Twice since my hair has touched my shoulders I have been asked about donating and I have just glared the time I have taken to grow what I believe is awesome for me 4 years off to let a chemical inducement to go all happy happy for 6 months at best no thanks synthetic is fine it will last longer

Some people do get a kick out of the sacrifice. When we used to go to church (my wife used to be christian and is now pagan - I have always been an atheist) we knew a lady that cut her long hair back to shoulders to donate. God botherers go in for that sort of thing.
At least this boy raised money for a real cancer charity. Many people think Locks of Love helps cancer patients, but it actually only helps other children with hair loss caused by other conditions.
Glad my hair is too grey to donate, because I wouldn't anyway, LOL!
I've also heard all sort of horror stories regarding donating hair....that most hair collected ends up being thrown away. I sincerely hope I'll never get cancer....I would probably get a "fatal" heart attack seeing myself bald..."fatal" as I already have heart issues....
But I wonder if the kid is really happy....
My understanding is 95% of the hair donated to LOL gets trashed
along with hair that is grey, colored, or damaged.
Also don't kids get artificial hair?
i've never had anyone suggest that I cut my hair and donate it to LOL. Probably because they know at this point the answer would be
no. Besides I intend to be using this hair until the day I die.
As others have said LOL needs money more than they need hair.
LOL pays their "executives" (members of the founding family) a handsome wage.
A large portion of their revenues come from selling donated hair...they sell so much, they've driven down the price of human hair on the open market.
