Considering how young I am and how short my hair is, I feel like the black sheep here. My hair is thick, though
I forgot to mention that, because my hair is thick, it doesn't grow out they way I want it to.
Hey Jacob!
How many months are you into your growth? I have thick hair also and I am growing mine out (currently at 5 months). Mine gets very poofy, but when it got longer it started weighing down.
Patience, my friend! My hair is thick and yes, it took some time before I was happy with the way it was growing in. Your patience will ultimately be rewarded with a nice, thick, long mane of which you can be proud. Along the way you'll learn how to dress it to account for that thickness. Best of luck...

Sometimes we just have to do the best we can with what we got.
I certainly wish I had a different hair type than what I got
but we don't get to choose our hair type.
I know how you feel bro, I had the same thoughs as you about my hair, never went out of the afro look (awkward stage), I wasn't able to grow it more than 4 or 6 months because forced haircuts.
But one day, when my mother suffered an accident and I need to take care of her all the time for 6 months, I wasn't caring about my personal look, just for my mother and that was the time I stopped to look at the mirror and my hair was getting down and covering my ears, I felt happy but my father wasn't and we went into a discussion, but that's another story.
Anyway, if you have curly hair like mine, you will only see some growth in about one full year, for reaching the shoulders that takes another year and couple of months.
Hair growns for everyone, but some people got better genes and have different types of hair than me and you.
Just have patience and you can reach it.
Take care my friend!
... Week by week, month by month, eventually you'll even get from one year to another. It's a process, "a journey", as the saying goes. We've all been where you're at now -- it's rare for any man to NOT start out their young life with short hair, experiencing for the first time how to grow it out long.
Just take it one day at a time. But rest assured, your hair is growing even as we speak!

Good advice. As the Chinese say, the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
Dude, of course you can grow your hair. It's the easiest thing in the world. All you have to do is...NOTHING.
OK, I know it takes a bit of work to let go of vanity / society's pressure on men to look a certain way and get through the awkward stage. I know it took me 20 years to let that stuff go. So I know where you're coming from. But you have to let go. Not only will you have the hair you always wanted, you will be a more relaxed, happy person. A win all around.
So, let go, let go, let go!
A third to half an inch per month is considered average hair growth. That means, for some people, like me, it's faster (just a bit faster) and for others, like you, it's slower. All you need is patience, and eventually, at some point, your hair will be the length which you desire. I know it can be very frustrating. But try to think about it this way, it is such a long process that you are guaranteed to be a different (hopefully better, more well-rounded) individual by the end of it. It's a transformative journey, in more ways than one.
Good luck!
Be strong, you can do it!! You will one day be here helping another frustrated man get through the discouraging times. Can't wait to see your future progress posts! Take care Sir.
To me I found that with baby fine hair I started ingesting a half ounce of cold pressed Olive Oil every morning and three months later I have notice stronger hair roots and shinier mane with less breakage too just a suggestion everyone else will encourage you I was the newbie until recently and our newest regular fellow has been adding Coconut oil from the supermarket after the towel dried hair of a shampoo. About the size of a dime in one hand use your body heat to melt the oil and then slick it into your hair split ends will be history. My long hair is now on my shoulders after 3 years no trims leave it grow and don't worry we are here to help when you want to call on us.
