Hey guys,
Ive been reading the posts on this site for a few weeks now. Although Im usually not much of a group joiner I thought I might like to post, or reply to posts once in a while. So, I thought it might be a good idea to introduce myself before I start participating. I had long hair back in the 70s when I was in my early 20s living in a commune in California (those were some great times!). I ended up cutting my hair and wearing it short for employment reasons. I spent part of my life working in corporate America, then decided (as part of my mid-life crisis) to go into nursing. I have been working as a Registered Nurse ever since then. I also own and operate a bamboo farm in SW Florida and I am an avid photographer and run a photography group in the local area.
At the end of last year it dawned on me that there was no longer any reason for me to continue to have short hair, as I would be turning 65 years old in 2015 and I am planning on retiring before long. Needless to say, I stopped cutting my hair at the beginning of 2015 and plan on letting it grow long again. I wont bore you with any photos yet, as my hair has only been growing for about 7 months (and I had it very short before). Once I think it is respectably long Ill post some photos. Anyway, I just wanted to give you a little background and let you all know that I am really glad to have found this group and I hope that I can make a positive contribution.
All the best,
BambooForYou
Hey BambooForYou,
Welcome to the tribe, bro.
I am Raymond. I am sixty (60) years old and I have been growing my hair out for the past fifty-three (53) months. I only regret that I have not done it sooner.
Welcome back to Longhairdom. You said that you had long hair some forty (40) years ago and that you have decided to return to this part of you. Welcome home, bro! The guys on MLHH are really a band of long haired brothers. We give encouragement, advise, and support to each other.
Since you had long hair earlier in life and have decided to return to it it is probable that you are a born long hair; a guy for whom long hair is part of your identity. Claim it, embrace it, and welcome to the family, bro.
I would not be bored to see your hair progress at this point. You can use it as the beginning of a pictorial documentation of your long hair journey.
Once again, welcome to the family, bro.
Your long haired bro,
Raymond
Hi Raymond,
Here's a photo I made today. About 7 months growth and I had it very short before. It's a start.
Raymond,
Here is an old photo from when I had my hair long back in my 20s. I also had hair on the top of my head back then.
Welcome to the forum!! I will look forward to seeing your pics of your hair work of art in progress. :) Please feel at home and comfortable enough to participate! Cheers! :)
LONG HAIR RULES
Hi there Mr. BambooForYou,
What a terrific introduction -- and nice pics, too!!
I always fantasized about living in a commune (but never did), so it's fun for me to hear about other's experiences during the '70s.
You and I are approximately around the same age: I just turned 62 last month. During the late '60s and early '70s, my dad absolutely forbid long hair on me or any of my brothers (grew up with 4 of them -- 3 step-brothers and one older biological brother); so I left home at age 18 (almost 19) in order to have freedom from his overly strict rules of his household. That decision cost me finishing my college education (only attended college during my freshman year); but it definitely felt worth it at the time.
I was a rather "late-bloomer", in that I wasn't able to grow my hair long enough to put back into a ponytail until my 40th birthday -- although I did have "long-ISH" hair several times during my early 20s and into my 30s... it often depended upon my job at the time, and whatever "dress code" rules they had re. men's hair length.
Well, that's just a quick little summary about myself, since I very much enjoyed reading yours!

Thanks for the laugh and for the welcome. Much appreciated.
All the best,
