I heard the bun is now a popular hairstyle for men. I guess more men are growing their hair out for this reason. I'm not sure how long the "Man Bun" will stay popular, though.
I saw a top not hair style on the train last week and I commented on it. Buns whatever to much trouble leaving mine down and loose as it grows out I like the feel on my back when I am in Commando mode so it is where I am leaving it no matter who says it isn't the style that they like. Silverthorne
Check out this article on the subject. The comments that the readers make about that hairstyle, and some about longhairs in general, are fun to read:
Man Buns of Disneyland
Hi Jacob,
It's fun to feel trendy; but as anyone who's been on planet Earth for any length of time soon knows, popular trends come and go as quickly as changing into a new pair of underwear.
The real reason for anybody, -- regardless of whether male or female -- puts their hair back (or up) into a bun, has more to do with it being a PRACTICAL hairstyle for anybody with long hair... and the longer the hair, the more practical it proves to be!
This pic of my hair in a bun was taken on the same day as when my avatar pic was taken. Ocean Beach in San Francisco (which can be seen in the background in both of these pics) can be a very windy place. The majority of time that I was visiting the beach that day, my hair was back in a bun (to keep it together and protect it from too much wind damage); but then it was fun to let it loose in order to take a few pics of it flowing free...
That's my answer, anyway -- I just don't give a damn whether it's considered "trendy", or not!!

Good answer, I could not say it better.

Well, I think you can see that a lot of the men barely have long enough hair, so yeah, they are being trendy. Ponytails went through a very similar phase. Pigtails (braids if you're a Yank), not so much, because they require more hair.
It's all beneficial to us, though. Makes it easier to escape the summer heat, etc.
