On our way from Steens Mountain (extremely cool mtn range, a very long ways from everywhere), we stopped at Fields for gas ("We break the rules here, go ahead and pump your own gas"[1]) and very good handmade milkshakes, while waiting for the owner (of Fields entire) to ring us up, she asked "How long is your hair?!" to which my girlfriend asked "Which one of us?" and I pulled the stick out of my hair, and while the goggling and sputtering was going on, she continued "Actually we are about the same length but he's taller." Heh!
[1] Employees must pump gas in Oregon. Of course, an Oregon State Trooper pulls in for a milkshake as the gas is being pumped...he was not concerned...whew!
Ha ha, yea NJ is the other state with no self serve gas unless your pumping diesel for some reason.
I would have loved to see their faces when you released your hair:) I bet they were shocked but then I would think Oregon has lots of longhairs?
Surprisingly not shocked!
Steens is in the deep south east corner of Oregon...much closer to Utah than Portland!
I drove my step-mom from Roseburg, OR to Ontario, OR (near the Boise, Idaho boarder), in June of '99... took damn near forever to get that far east in the state of Oregon -- and scenery that felt more as if we were on the moon than still on planet Earth!
It is definitely "different" out there!!
Fun to hear about the local's reaction to your hair!!!

Hi Trolleypup,
The reply I typed out to Mark Hairball I THOUGHT I was typing to you!!
I like Mark (Hairball), and I normally am happy to reply to him; but when responding late at night on MLHH, I guess I don't always know what I'm doing, even if I assume I'm responding to the correct person (LOL)....
Anyway, speaking of the price of wheat in Tasmania... (LOL)
