Hello LongHairs!
I have a dilemma. Is it time to break out the headbands? http://m.imgur.com/pu9sXOz,TUhlJj8,awetbDH
My cowlick makes my bangs curl overtop and it looks quite awkward to me ha ha. I'd appreciate any tips or advice.
I've been using paste but it doesn't hold my bangs up any longer than 3 hours
Other than this I am loving having longer hair (longer than I'm used to)

I don't think it looks awkward at all. You have awesome thick hair, and you can pull of a killer bedhead look right now with just a light use of hair wax/texturizer.
Thank you for the encouragement Carter, I really appreciate it! Could you include a link to the bed head style you are thinking about? I do typically tuck the hair behind my ears and try to go for a Bradley cooper look.
Thanks!
Wes
Yeah, slicking it back like Bradley Cooper always looks good, and any flips here or there look good.
For bedhead, just rub a little bit of wax in your palms -- really fast back and forth till you feel a little heat -- then rub it into your hair focusing on the roots. Then just fluff it all over. You can pull off a cool bedhead/rocker look for a couple months this way. Robert Pattinson has lots of bedhead looks, close to your length.
When it gets longer you can something similar but with a kind of pompadour on top. Brush the hair on top up, slick the slides back but mess them up a bit. You have thick hair, and it looks like with some wave to it. You hair is perfect for those looks.
Those are both great inspiration pics.
Dude, you've got amazing hair and this stage actually looks really good! Can't wait to see it longer.
Thanks so much! That is very encouraging. I wore a bandanna to press the curl against my head today and that really helped. I don't mind the fringe look at all it was just annoying having it flop down. I'm really excited to see what it looks like in a year or so when I can tie it up. I really hope the waves become more pronounced.
Can't wait to be an official longhair!!
Good idea about the bandanna. For some reason I'm intimidated about wearing one. I saw a guy at the gym last night who had a high bun and a bandanna wrapped around his brow, looked very cool. Maybe I'l try it this weekend.
Carter, thanks so much for the tips! I may have to give this a try!!
And here's a pick for a messy pomp when your hair is a couple inches longer. You can pull off this look even when your hair is about the same length all over, and don't need to get it cut. You could probably rock this look for a couple months while growing it out. Your is hair thick, so it should be easy to pull this look off. Just work your hair up on top, and then kinda flatten it/brush it back on the sides.
Thanks! This does look like a cool style to experiment with!!
You have to do what you feel most comfortable with, but from your picture, your hair looks just great. Thick, nice wave, I would just enjoy it. Especially the new feel of hair on your forehead. Good luck. sj
Thanks SJ! I'd like to convince myself it doesn't look bad too, I guess it is just so different from what I am used to so I am more self conscious of it. Ha ha yea the feeling of hair on my forehead will be a nice sample of more to come later. I do need to just slow down, be patient and enjoy each stage. So often I focus on the end goal that I don't enjoy the process of the journey.

Hi Wes,
You've already received some excellent advise, so I doubt there's much more I can add -- other than I think your hair looks pretty damn "ideal" for growing out looooooong!!
Whatever it takes, Wes: whether you choose to slick it back with gel, hairspray, or some other form of temporary goop; wear a hat or bandana, or tie your bangs back into a half-tail when it gets longer... it's all good (and only a temporary means to achieve a worthwhile end goal)... Just keep up the good "work", man!

Hey Ken,
I sure have received some good advice! I am certain it will be so worth it powering through the awkward, or my preferred term unfamiliar, phase. You guys on here have been so supportive and encouraging. Thank you and everyone else so much! You all are helping me to stick with it.
Yesterday I put a bandanna on and it helped press the curly bangs against my head for a fringe type look. That helped so much. I'm glad I can wear hats and headbands to the gym I might be working at soon
The best solution is to just let it grow, and doing whatever you need to do to hold your hair over while it grows. But the best thing to do is ****not******** cut it.
I hate to break it to you, but that's not very long. It may be longer than what you're used to, but still, not very. Soon, your hair will reach your eyes, and be poking them, and obscuring your vision, then tickling your nose, then in the way of your mouth. You'll be shoving your hair aside for every bite or sip, and your hair will end up in your mouth. Be thankful right now that your hair just looks a bit unkempt now. It's not that there's one awkward stage, but that there's many.
You can use hats, beanies, headbands, and bandanas to hold back your hair as it grows longer. Styling products like gel or hairspray work worse as your hair length and volume increases. So, for right now, switching over to a strong gel or hairspray may work well. But soon you'll just have to wear various head-gear. However, don't wear hats or such things all the time--it's bad for your scalp. So, in part, you'll just have to embrace and endure the awkward stages. They will pass in time.
Thanks for the comment!! Yea it definitely is longer than I'm used to. Haven't had it this long since like middle school ha ha. I know I have a while to being in the awkward stages. When were you able to do a half bun?
