Hi, I'm Porter, just started grad school. Decided to grow my hair out with the intent of wearing the oh so popular man bun as it seemed like a fun thing to try. Suffered through the awkward stage, but survived, if barely. Wore my man bun proudly for a short while then realized that growing long hair is addicting and I didn't want to stop at shoulder length and so I have been pushing on from there. Generally wear it in a ponytail these days despite the fact it is not "cool" like a bun, but I find it suits me better and I like the feeling of it moving around when I walk, turn my head, etc. as silly as that is.
Not sure how much longer I will grow it, but definitely won't cut, and wanted to introduce myself on this site as I have lurked for a few months and have definitely transitioned to being a true longhair I think.

Hey Porter - Welcome. You've got some awesome hair there. I love the highlights. I actually like the ponytail look better than a bun. You can see how long the hair is with a ponytail, so I think it shows off hair better. And who care what's "cool"? What's more important is just being yourself. You mentioned that you're in grad school. What's the career goal?
I prefer the pony too. #teampony !
Studying chemistry, hoping to eventually go into industry, what specifically is yet to be specified.
I absolutely agree with you, Porter :) that's why I always wear ponytail ...
You've got great hair. It looks cool in a ponytail.
Thanks!
WOW!!!! That is one amazingly thick ponytail, Porter, you are one very lucky guy!!
Yes, growing more hair length can indeed be very addictive. Personally for me, if it wasn't for the fact that I've reached my terminal length (Mother Nature and my genetics just won't allow me to grow it much longer than belt-length), my ideal "dream hair" would be knee-length; but hey, each of us has to discover for ourselves what length and style we feel best suits us, and what will make us happiest (as well as what forces that are beyond our control we have to bow down to - LOL).
Welcome to MLHH!!!

You have such a great head of hair. It looks very healthy!!
I bet the pony is much less damaging on the hair than twisting it all up into a bun.
Grow on!
My understanding is it is only damaging is if you have it too tight.
Your hair is looking great. I prefer wearing my hair down and loose. At the age of 61 I don't care what is considered cool,
I prefer having my hair cascading down my back. I've had long hair since 1964 despite weather it is viewed as cool or not.
I do wear it in a bun sometimes, but heck, i've got long hair
and i'm not one to hide that fact.
That's one fine looking golden mane! Wear it whatever way you prefer; trends come and go, long hair always rocks.
Thanks for the compliments everyone! (Decided this might be easier than posting individual thanks on each post and take up less space)

Hey Porter,
First, welcome to the tribe.
You have awesome looking hair, dude.
It does not sound silly to say that you like the feel of your feel of my hair on my hair on your body. I like the feel of my hair on my body.
Welcome to the family, bro.

I almost always wear my hair down and loose even though it is
not cool and hasn't been for years.
Yes you do.
I generally wear my hair down and loose, I love the feel of it cascading down my back.
Thanks for sharing your story - great journey so far. I don't think it really matters what style you wear - buns may be cool at the moment, but it's the length that counts. Ponytails are convenient and show off all the length; buns are more work and hide the length!
Happy growing.
I wear my hair in a bun sometimes but the bottom line here is
I have long hair, and I prefer to wear it long and loose. One thing I hate about a bun is it hides the length. I've got long hair and i want to continue to enjoy that long hair every day.
Porter, looks great. Good luck in grad school.
Your hair looks great. Keep it growing.
Wow! Very inspirational! It looks very thick and healthy!
Where do you study?
