When I have my shower each day but when I am not washing my hair, I do a ponytail, and then twist the hairband a second time, pull the hair through, but only half way to shorten the ponytail and leave a loop caught in the hairband. Obviously I do this for purely practical reasons - to keep my hair dry.
I have sometimes seen this loop and short tail worn by people in public. Is there a name for this particular "bun" or whatever?

Yep, it's fun to do this sort of "shortened" ponytail from time to time. My favorite name for it is "pull-tab" ponytail; but I've also heard it referred to as a "loop-through"... Up to you!
I agree with you: it's practical, comes in handy sometimes -- that's the main reason I do it on occasion anyway.
I'm glad you brought this question up, Anthony, I forget about pull-tab ponytails, even though I've done that for years. I have no photo of myself wearing it that way though.

I have no idea what you call it, I do something similar when I take a shower and don't want to wash the hair. I'll pull it back in a pony tail bu then i'll wrap the hair around my hand several times and then use a hair tie to hold that bunch of hair together. I have no idea what you'd call it but serves the purpose of keeping the hair dry in the shower. I just have to be caraeful to not tie it too tight. There have been times when
i've worn it like that in public, along with a bunch of other
styles to change it up. That is one of the great things about
long hair.
