Hello guys,
I'm 18 and I have been growing hair for about 7 years (my hair grows slowly, though) and recently I have started losing much more hair than usual, up to 30-40 hairs fall of my hair every day, while usually it would be 10 at most.
I think I'm suffering from hair loss, ahould I go see a dermatologist?
Pic related, though I haven't brushed it in 5 days.
Your not loosing your hair. 3-40 hairs a day is quite normal to loose. Your probably more aware of the hair loss, due to your hairs length. Continue enjoying your hair and stop worrying.

Hi(gh)!
First of all: your golden mane is just awesome! Wish I had the chance to grow mine out at such an early age...
See you in Khyberspace!

You hair is just magnificently awesome. I have a dermatologist that specializes in hair restoration. I have been following his advise and prescription the last five years. My hair shedding has been sharply reduced to minimal in the shower drain and a few here and there in the hair brush. It used to fall out all the time. Hair shedding should be similar to your girlfriend/ wife. This is very occasional over a normal seven year cycle.

Hi Stormtrooper
You have beautiful thick hair. I am 30 now. I am growing my hair for the past 6 years. I had more or less the same thick hair. Now it is less because of hair loss. In my case it is purely because of my lack of maintenance. When I say lack of maintenance i did not wash my hair regularly (it varies with person to person), did not style my hair properly, these are two important things besides adequate physical activity and proper balanced diet one may need. The later two are important for good health and it will reflect in the healthy hair, which you have. When you say 30-40 hairs a day, most people would say it is quite normal. Well you can keep it to the minimum than that. As I realized myself partly because of my reluctance to style my hair as it requires and partly because of my ignorance, I lost considerable amount of hair in the past two years.
Two things, one you should regularly trim the ends, I don't mean chopping of a couple of inches (if that's what you want you may do it), but I said trim the ends regularly. Wash your hair regularly according to your scalp type and use the right products for your hair type. you may need to do some research and consult about this to a dermatologist.
Stop wearing your hair in a ponytail or a tight bun using the rubber bands elastic. It pulls the hair down and it will result in receding hairline. you will start noticing the receding hair line in the forehead, accompanied with lot of frizzy hair around your head. Instead use a scrunchy, no elastic even if it does not have metal part, do not use elastic. No need to keep your hair in ponytails or buns all the time. Part it in the side or middle as you may like it and let it flow. It may sound weird, but this is the truth, do not be reluctant to style your hair. The hair of this length needs proper style. Trust me, i did not and then when i started doing it i realized the changes & reduction in amount of hair fall. Do not be shy to braid your hair or use other proper hair accessories, bobby pins & bands (of course appropriately according to your taste). Do not worry about what others think or they say, or they tease. Keeping your hair styled is very important. It reduces the stress in roots & the scalp. Most of the hair loss occurs due to pulling of hair. For your thickness I would style the hair into pigtail braids, Ideally speaking single braid of that length can still result in stress in the roots of the hair in the forehead. Pigtail braids on the other hand let the hair to fall down more naturally. I do that from time to time. At first i was a bit shy, but later on it just became a part of it. There is a reason other than just the appearance why girls wear their hair in some ways, it is for convenience & to maintain the hair properly. Change the hair styles frequently as it would stop creating stress in one part of scalp consistently. I cannot insist more on styling the hair (according to the kind of activity you involve yourself in), because it is very important.
(Even if others tease you, they will stop it). Do not be shy and talk to your mother or sister or friends. It is just hair, yet if you would like to keep it this way and enjoy the long hair, you need to get some advice and treat it properly.

Assuming 50000 hairs on your scalp, and a 4-years-long growing cycle --that is, all your hairs at some point fell within 4 years before regrowing-- that amount to 34 hairs/day. You should adapt the figures to your case, but I would say that from 10 to 100 hairs per day is normal for a man, the average being around 50 I guess.
Hair can fall in different ways: naturally (end of cicle), pulled (mechanically) or broken (mechanically or chemically).
I suggest to collect a hundred specimens, and check both ends for signs of damage. If you feel a keratinized hard little translucent ball right at the end, it is the sign of a hair at the end of its cicle. Most of your hairs should be like this, plus a handful possibly pulled out by harsh manipulation (brushes, elastics, etc).
Am I correct that the normal person sheds 100+ hairs a day?
