A lot can be said on this topic; but, I'll try my best keep most of it brief (long-winded longhair that I can be sometimes - LOL)....
1) if you are a parent: please do NOT force your hair length aesthetics / preference on your children (attached photo is of me and my brothers, taken at Niagara Falls in the summer of 1965)
2) from one adult to another: although there is nothing wrong with diplomatically stating a hair style/length opinion or preference to one's wife/husband, partner/lover, family member, or best friend about what looks "best" on THEM; another person always has the right to do whatever they want with their own hair on their own head!
3) if you are a longhair "Wannabe": in most cases, if your goal is to grow your hair out looooong, then AVOID AS OFTEN AS POSSIBLE that evil word, "haircut!"
4) if you've just experienced a really bad "hack-job" on your hair (either by someone else, or you yourself), then you may want to consider the exact opposite of what I just said in #3... treating yourself to a very expensive and high-class hair stylist in order to repair the damage that was done 2will help you get "over" the bad memory, which will help you "move on"... (I speak from experience about this, as back in Y2K when I regrettably impulsively cut off my waist length hair to short, the most expensive trim I've ever paid for helped me emotionally re-start my 2nd hair growth journey)
5) if you are primarily very happy with your hair growth progress, but think you may want or "need" a little trim, my advise is: delay delay DELAY!!
6) if you are WORRIED about an upcoming hair appointment at a salon (or worse, at a barber shop), then my advise is: cancel cancel CANCEL!!!
7) if your goal is to achieve either an extreme length or terminal length, this is the easiest advise of all: just let it grow!!!!!

PS - In the attached pic, I'm the blonde kid on the far right.
Thank you for the reminders.
And you look very like your fabulous self even with the hacked off hair!
ps: did some haircutting over the weekend. 2 hours with very sharp shears, special glasses, and a very bright light. S&D until my arm fell off...hair much less tangly now. Hundreds of 1/8" to 1/2" bits.
Awww, thanks!
OMG, I know exactly what you mean! S & D missions take a lot of time; but still my favorite way to do any trimming of split ends. My prescription glasses are for distance only (for when i drive); so when I do any S & D trimming, I take my glasses off in order to better see the split ends. But i do the same as you do: either back-lit by a bright indoor light, or bright early morning sun.
Thanks for the very good summary about the h-word, hairut. I like the acceptance, everyone can decide how they want to have their hair.
You're welcome, Phillip! Yes, acceptance is so important, and so vital to people getting along well and working smoothly together. Thanks for your reply!! - Ken
