Hi, my name is Markus, I am from Austria (not to be confused with Australia LOL I am kidding), I am glad to find this hyperboard, great to have place like this where longhaired folk can discuss everything hair-related. I wish I had come across your community earlier...
Age 20. Started growing my hair out about 5 years ago when was 15 and still at school. Had difficulty in talking my parents into letting me wear long hair. Fortunately everything turned out OK. I attended a very ordinary school with no strict dress code rules so no problems there. By the time I left school, I had a rather long ponytail. Some of my classmates envied me...hahahahaha...LOL
Now a university student, studying History.
Want to share some photos showing my hair growth progress

Welcome to the hyperboard, Marcus. Your hair certainly looks great and you do a good braid. I try to braid mine now and then, but don't always like the results. You were lucky to have a reasonable family and school. That wasn't the case when I was that age and wanting long hair. I had to wait until I was like 21 and moved away from home. But I caught up for lost time quick.
Thank you so much for your kind words :)
It took me time (long time actually) to learn how to braid my hair. Braiding hair turned out to be more difficult than I thought ...hahaha
My hair tends to go wavy when long so I decided to keep it in a braid , it is practical and it looks cool too but I also like traditional ponytail.
I am happy for you! How long have you been growing out your hair?
I have a friend who could start wearing the hairstyle he liked only after leaving home.
I'm one of those older fellows who first grew long hair in an earlier era when it wasn't nearly as accepted as it is now. Various life situations have inspired me to cut it short a few times, but I've always been a long haired person at heart and now am one to stay.
One good thing about hair is it's always growing, though. By not cutting it short we just show off the fact.
Welcome to the community Markus as its always great when new longhairs find us :) Not a lot of bells and whistles here like some sites but the most important thing is for longhairs such as ourselves to find one another.Your hair looks fantastic and that is awesome you faced little resistance when growing it out.I can say I've had the same experience so consider myself fortunate as my hair has been long for decades. Please make yourself at home here and ask anything that comes to mind.We have a diverse group of guys here so many perspectives.Cheers my friend.

Many thanks for your warm welcome.
As I see there are many guys who have been longhaired for years and even decades! Wow! Really awesome. Respect!
I hope to stay longhaired for as long as possible :)
Schöne Grüsser, Markus.
Welcome to the board! You will find that some of us are older and have made the journey to long hair. Some of us have had long hair for decades. Myself, I was short-haired until only two years ago. I stopped cutting it and I am on the "journey". I often wish I had grown my hair at your age - so you are fortunate not to wait until your 50's.
Many of us have studied. I studied theology at Fribourg in Switzerland in the 1980's.
You have wonderful hair. Look after it and you will keep it for a very long time.
Anthony
Hallo, Anthony, wie gehtLs ? :)
So, I am on the journey too, would like to have a waist length hair...LOL I hope I achieve my goal. I have always wanted long hair, from my earliest memories... in my childhood every time I saw a man with ponytail (in the street or in the movie) I thought 'wow, I want this hairstyle' LOL
Welcome!! You have hair to be jealous of and should be able to
have some very awesome waist length hair.
History is a good subject, one of my favorites.
Hello! Glad to hear you like History too.
Oh I hope to have waist length braid!
Wilkommen! Glucklich zu sehen. Ich hatte langes Haar seit 1974.
Ich bin Englander, aber Ich lernte Deutsch in der Schule, im Jurassic, LOL!
Willkommen! Glucklich zu sehen. Ich hatte langes Haar seit 1974.
Hallo! Ich freue mich Sie kennen zu lernen!
Seit 1974 ?! Wunderbar!
Wow :o - great-looking hair :D !... very nice @o@ ! Super lucky >< !!! Are you in a band :o ? The reason I ask is because I see a electric guitar behind you (I believe :o ~) and you look like the rock-type ;p heh. Also, are you originally from Austria :o ??? Your English spot-on ;D !~
I once was a frequent member of this board... grew out my hair for three years, I think, before my wife chopped it off >< ... sacrificial cut :*( . I miss long hair so much (always have, always will)... am in the process of trying to grow it out again... if I can sneak it by others somehow and if my scalp will still let me >o> ...
People have always dictated how I should wear my hair my whole life :( . You are really, really lucky to have family members who are supportive and understanding :o . I regret that I didn't go ahead and grow out my hair 15-or-so years ago - about when I would have been your age (I actually wanted to grow out my hair when I was 13, but my parents wouldn't have a bit of it ~o~ ). I was threatened with loosing the roof over my head if I would have at the time, so who knows... maybe it's a good thing I didn't :o ? Not sure :/ ~.....
Ah well, anyways, please enjoy what you have and feel lucky for it - for the time being ;p heh (never know what the real world - a.k.a. a job, will dictate once you get out there :/ ). Maybe I'll reintroduce myself one to the board of these days, if my hair gets or is able to get long enough :o . Time will only tell ;p ~
Peace and thanks for the great post ^^ !~
Sincerely,
Yoshiki
(alias.. at least I believe that's the name I used to go by here :o ~.....)
Hi! Many thanks for the kind words!
Yes, I play guitar. No, I am not in a band, I used to...but our band collapsed and currently my friends and I try to form a new band. We mostly play rock, a couple of times we performed at various events at the uni.
Also, are you originally from Austria :o ??? Your English spot-on ;D !~
I appreciate your comment :) I have been studying English since elementary school ...for many years ...
I hope you will be able to wear long hair again. Every person should have right to wear long hair!
Best wishes!
Hi Markus,
Welcome to MLHH!!!
Thanks so much for the great introduction, and for sharing those fabulous pics of your hair -- you have the kind of hair that would make anybody very very proud!!
It's very encouraging for me to hear how supportive your parents and others around you have been during your growing out stages. That's the way it SHOULD be, but so often isn't. My dad absolutely forbid me or my brothers from growing our hair out when we still lived under his roof, for example; so I had to leave home and join the work force when I was 18 in order to gain even a small amount of freedom from his overly controlling rules (on other issues besides just hair, too).
Anyway, thanks again for introducing yourself and sharing you wonderful pics (I especially admire that great looking braid pic)!!

Hi, Ken!
Thank you so much for your kind words!
Yes, I realize how lucky I am to have very supportive people around me... I agree with you that it is the way it should be for everyone! It is a shame some people dictate the others how they should wear their hair.
I guess you have very long hair :)
Hi again Markus,
I always enjoy reading about other's hair history; so here is a quick summary of my own:
1) had very short hair until I left my dad's house at age 18 (almost 19, had gone away to college for one year)
2) grew my hair out to "long-ISH" all during my 20s and 30s, trying out various styles
3) finally grew my hair long enough to tie back into a ponytail by my 40th birthday (!); then continued growing until reaching waist-length by late 1999 and early Y2K
4) impulsively cut my hair short on the first day of summer, Y2K -- and deeply regretted it...
5) Immediately started growing my hair back to long, eventually only stopping because of reaching terminal length (which is just slightly past my belt line, barely touching the top of my butt) -- which it's been for a few years now.... The pics on my hair website pages are from 2004; so, it's considerably longer than that now!
- Ken
This pic was taken a couple of years ago (Nov. of 2013), by either Bill Choisser (long-time member of this site and original Chief Tech wizard of MLHH) or his partner, Larry. My hair basically looks the same today -- "terminal length" is when your hair reaches its own natural length limit... even though I WISH to grow my hair to knee-length, my genetics plus my age (62) just won't allow it to grow any longer than this... BOO-HOO (lol)!!

many thanks ! Great photo ! Great hair! I hope I will have hair like this when I am 62 ! lol :)
I found a pic of me taken some years ago, I already had a ponytail but not long enough to braid it, this is how I went to school (my final year)

You must have been one of the coolest looking kids in the school.
hahahaha... very maybe ... a couple of my classmates used to pull my ponytail but they were just fooling around :)
Herzlich Willkommen.
