I came across this article regarding long hair as an extension of our sensory system:

Any thoughts?

A Linux Longhair
I am going to say that for my own self that I definitely feel more whole as a Native person when I have longer hair. It connects me to the land and my Edisto people. I am also Lenape and I frequently wear the hair in traditional Lenape men's style in public. That way the message is clear about my social identity. Traditional Lenape men's hair style is a single poneytail at the base of the skull in the middle of the head down the middle of the back. Outside of Wild Potato/ Hair Clan, most Cherokee men have traditionally had short hair as far as I understand. I am part of Wild Potato/Hair Clan. So, I can have my hair any way I want it. This works out perfectly since I have many Nations in me. As far as the article at hand, it may very well be that those individuals mentioned may have been accustomed to sound amplification with their hair being longer. I find with my hair that when I wear it down that sound is amplified. It could also be that without their hair the men did not feel connected to the Earth and that is what threw them off. Tradition is very important to Native peoples. Hair means different things to Native American nations. I cannot talk for the men mentioned on the web-page. Hope my entry helps you understand some of my cultures better.
Interesting article, but some of it sounds a bit far fetched to me. I think it was Carl Sagan who said that extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. I would love to see the actual evidence for these claims.
