Hi all, I'm at around 7 inches now, about chin-length, and I plan to grow it until it's maybe a few inches past shoulder length. I've been there before, and I love how it looks when it's a little wavy (it can get like that a little when it hits my shoulder/collar), though usually it's really straight and I don't really like it like that. I've read a little about curling but I don't want to do anything that can damage it (i.e., heat, perms). I've read you can just use curlers with wet hair, and in the Victorian Era people just wet their hair and used different methods, of course that only lasts until you wash it again.
Anyway I curious about any advice or tips people here might have. Thanks
Its always the case, people with straight hair want it curled
and me with curly frizzy hair would have loved to have had
nice looonnnggg straight hair.
That's right, I don't think "Straight" hair would fit me and it can look sometimes too "unnatural" and artificial for those like us who have curly hair hahaha.
Take care!
The thing that I think I miss is that long straight hair tends
to "flow" and move when people move but curly hair just sits
there like a steel wool pad.
I am happy with what I've got: long straight hair with a little waviness towards the ends. I would never try to change my style of hair. It moves in the wind and I use a hairband and a headband to restrain it when I go sailing.
Each to his own...

Ha ha, I've heard that so many times - though I'm pretty conservative, just looking for a few waves, not trying to look like Shirley Temple or anything.
I've used curlers. I go full-head with them, using at least four dozen small magnetic snap curlers on wet hair and letting it air dry.
Hey DK,
First of all, congrats on making the decision to grow out your hair.
I agree that using irons or heat is bad for your hair. I agree with Rock; use rollers when your hair is wet. Don't pull your hair too tightly. However, if you use the rollers consistently you should notice your hair becoming more and more curly.
Send a pic.
Your long haired bro,
Raymond
Thanks, and I'll try and post a pic soon. Dave

I don't very often these days, but I've actually used curlers off and on since the 1970s(!). I've got very fine hair that's always easily looked like a wirey mess without a little order. Curlers can make it smoother and, of course, turn under the ends at the bottom well.
I'll give you a few tips. I didn't have much luck with the so-called velcro rollers, which can stay put without clips. They instantly tangle in my hair. I just use the plastic tube type these days. Forget those goofy plastic pins that come with them, though. Get some of those nice 2" long spring hair clips to hold 'em in. I usually put curlers in after my hair has been towel dried and air dried a half hour or so. I don't always leave them in until the hair is completely dry. I've found I can go a shampooing or so after doing a set and still have some of the set left in the hair.
I don't use hair dryers or any sort of heat gadgets. Those can really damage the hair, especially if it's fine like mine. I tried hot rollers once long ago and decided they were not for me. They bake your hair and their really heavy.
