I've been noticing lateley that a number of older guys are letting their hair go longer I'm 64 and these guys are probably older than me. Anyone else notice this?
Baby Boomers - born in the late 1940's to early 60's. That's my take on our generation.
Hi Anthony,
Very nice to see you come out of hiding! I sure hope your wonderful white mane is still growing well! I will have 1 year of growth in the middle of October. My hair is just starting to brush my shoulders. Can't wait to get to the 2 year mark! It seems like 2 years is when the hair really starts to look good. How many years have you been growing your hair now? Please take care of yourself!

Hello Ted,
Nice to hear from you. The mane is still there, 5 years without any cutting, and mid-back. I seem to be at terminal length. I am grateful that I have what I have. The "journey" seems to be over, but I keep on washing it when it needs a wash and brushing it.
Indeed, the first two years are exciting, and it is a part of our self discovery. It brings me to think of that wonderful poem of Thomas Traherne "The Salutation". He makes no mention of hair, but I think we can include it in our sense of wonder on discovering the results of our creation.
These little limbs,
These eyes and hands which here I find,
These rosy cheeks wherewith my life begins,
Where have ye been? behind
What curtain were ye from me hid so long?
Where was, in what abyss, my speaking tongue?
When silent I
So many thousand, thousand years
Beneath the dust did in a chaos lie,
How could I smiles or tears,
Or lips or hands or eyes or ears perceive?
Welcome ye treasures which I now receive.
I that so long
Was nothing from eternity,
Did little think such joys as ear or tongue
To celebrate or see:
Such sounds to hear, such hands to feel, such feet,
Beneath the skies on such a ground to meet.
New burnished joys,
Which yellow gold and pearls excel!
Such sacred treasures are the limbs in boys,
In which a soul doth dwell;
Their organizèd joints and azure veins
More wealth include than all the world contains.
From dust I rise,
And out of nothing now awake;
These brighter regions which salute mine eyes,
A gift from God I take.
The earth, the seas, the light, the day, the skies,
The sun and stars are mine if those I prize.
Long time before
I in my mothers womb was born,
A God, preparing, did this glorious store,
The world, for me adorn.
Into this Eden so divine and fair,
So wide and bright, I come His son and heir.
A stranger here
Strange things doth meet, strange glories see;
Strange treasures lodged in this fair world appear,
Strange all and new to me;
But that they mine should be, who nothing was,
That strangest is of all, yet brought to pass.
Hi Anthony,
Well I am happy to hear you have achieved at least mid-back length! I would certainly be happy with that length! I am 1 month away from a year since my last haircut. My hair is just brushing my shoulders now. I will post an update photo next month sometime. So far I am happy with how it's growing.
That's a wonderful poem which I also find is fitting to us. Thanks for posting it! Please take care and check in once in a while!

I am in my mid 70s and live in the SW US desert where dress is very casual...long hair on seniors is very common and acceptable. Also looks really cool under a western hat !!
Oh Walter...you don't even look 55! What are you talking about! And yes, long hair really looks cool under a Western hat-especially on you! Please take care my friend!

Ted
Thank You for the compliment....
I just declared Victory and retired !!
I have a beautiful 30 acre ranch overlooking Death Valley which I miss very much when I am traveling for work. I am in my mid 70s, in good health and still on top of my professional game. So I figure it is time to make a graceful exit, go home and "...play with my toys..."
I have had more adventures around the world than most...and I look forward to an exciting, adventurous retirement.
Hi Walter,
Wow! That is wonderful! I am so happy to hear you are in good health! Please enjoy your ranch because you certainly deserve it! I always loved that area of the country and wish I still lived in Southern California. I wish nothing but the best for you my friend! Godspeed! Please take care of yourself!

Thanks Bruce !!
All my life I've been dreaming about visiting the real American ranch
So I am going to find an excuse to pay a visit :)

Hi LHIA,
I have also noticed this. Especially when I go the VA hospital. I was recently admitted and there was an older guy with long hair in my area.
But what I find sad is when I ask guys why they don't grow their hair out. Most of the time their answer is something like "I don't like how it starts to curl after a while". Or they tell me that their hair just gets "poofy" at some point and they don't like it. I try to tell them that once the hair gets long enough it will usually weigh itself down and look great. Of course, this may not hold true with very curly hair. But what I like is when I see a long haired boy. This tells me that his parents are open minded and tolerant. Please take care of yourself!

Hi LHIA,
Every time I go out I see someone that is a longhair, old or young. It is certainly refreshing to see a major change in attitudes around here.
Bruce
