This latest one is called the "Great Cut". Their goal is 200 lbs. of hair. I don't think there's enough kids with cancer in the country that could use that much hair. Remember "locks of love"? My suspicion is just like locks of love most of the donated hair will wind up in the trash or wigs will be sold for profit. My opinion is that all these so-called charities are just a backdoor way to get you to cut your hair. And that Robin Williams movie "Death to Smoochie" hit the nail on the head about charity organizations.
I remember several years ago I had to give to the United Way to keep my job. The way that worked is the company( a lot of companies were doing that back then) sent around a donation form and you had to fill it out whether or not you were donating. If the purpose was to intimidate me into donating, Job well done! Seriously with all the charities wanting our hair is a wonder there's any guys with long hair left.
No one will want my white hair!!! It's staying on my head unless it falls off on its own...

I think you are a little defensive here. Charities that collect hair dont care if its from a man or a woman; they care that the hair is untreated, long, preferably thick. That some hair doesnt become wigs doesnt mean the hair cannot benefit a charity in other ways, hair can be sold to make makeup brushes, fake eyelashes, even gardening hairmats. If you dont feel like donating, please dont.
Seems to me that it is mostly short haired people who apply the peer pressure on longhairs to donate their hair.
Just like how rich people get hit up more for charitable donations, you are going to target the audience that has something to give. Doesnt mean they are obligated to donate (money or hair).
