I was wondering how do i get my hair to grow out long instead of growing into a bowl cut. Im trying to focus my hair to being long instead of making me look like a mushroom. Thanks for everything guys.
Hi Razeinn,
Everybodys start off point and hair type is different so you may not have that problem. Many guys do gp through the"awkward stage" and if you do, the advice is to keep your eye on the goal and do not try to compensate by trimming excessively. That usually ends either badly or just prolongs the process.
Good luck,
Bruce
Interesting way of putting it-bowl cut. This is my third time doing this and I wasn't sure what u meant till this morning. My hair is wavy and curls when it gets longer. Right now it's only around 4" all the way around and I've been keeping it moisturized which really helps keep it from frizzing. But I've been slicking it straight back and using a homemade flax seed gel to keep it that way and add moisture. This morning before putting the gel in I noticed that the sides were getting too long to comb straight back and were mushrooming out like u described.
So what I did was finger comb it half way between towards the floor and towards the back of my head and that took care of things for now and then I gelled it so it stayed that way. As it gets longer I will have to let the sides go straight down over my ears and forget about the gel. But u don't wanna forget about moisturizing the ends with jojoba oil or argan oil so that the weight of the oil keep your hair down towards the floor rather than flipping who knows where.
Bottom line is don't force your hair to do what u think looks good with a hair dryer or some heat device because these may make it look good for that day but could damage your hair if used often and then you will wind up having to cut the damaged hair in months or years. Add some oil to your hair and let it do what it wants with a little guidance...it's in training!
Hope this helps,
Marty
