I will always have long one length long hair. Lately I have considered trimming it shorter. It is almost to my belly button. I had it belt length at one time but found it too long for my tastes. I guest growing to terminal length is out for me.

Hi Darrin,
I completely understand. As for myself, ever since I made a horrible impulsive decision back in 2000 to suddenly go from waist length to short ("typical guy length"), for the past 20 years I've been very focussed on achieving maximum length -- which because of my age plus genetics, my terminal length has never grown much further than belt-length... and I've tried and tried and tried, believe me! No butt-length or knee-length looks like it will ever happen (sigh...)....
I'm ready for a slight change though:
One of my niece's has a close girl friend who's an excellent hair stylist, and I've talked to her about trimming 2 or 3 inches at the bottom of my terminal length. My preference is more of a V-shape though, rather than a blunt cut straight across.
Since normally I wear my hair in either a bun or a braid during the day (especially at work), my goal of having my hair slightly shorter is that it will look a little more "styled" when I wear it down... right now it's quite thin at the ends.
Please keep us posted!

I've found that going much beyond about belt-length, there comes a point where the hair is too easily damaged, or caught on things, or sat upon. So for the past few years, I have been keeping the ends trimmed and the surprise benefit from all this trimming is that the ends are much fuller and less "see-through" and as such the hair looks much longer! My own preference is to keep it trimmed straight across (my mom calls it a "little girl's style") but that is how I like it. Another surprise bonus is that with the blunt ends, new growth is much more obvious than when the ends are very thin and a million different lengths, and thus it "looks" longer even if it really isn't.
Like you Todd, I am also a big fan of one length haircuts. Had long hair of various lengths through the years and blunt trims always look the best, Super blunt long hair is very rare on men but it looks great in a ponytail or braid and gives the impression that you really want long hair and want to keep it nice.
The downside of one length is that there is not as much movement when you wear it down as opposed to wearing some layers Or a soft U.
When done right, one length haircuts look fantastic in lower back length hair, as it gets closer to waist I think some layers are necessary or it looks heavy.
Its a personal preference but regarding my hair I dont care for layers. Prefer one length cut straight across with no fairy tale ends. Like Marsha Brady lol

It is a great look, there are so few long haired men that wear it perfectly blunt and straight across, its a striking look especially when you wear it down, do you have a picture to share?
Todd, your mane sounds FANTASTIC ! WOW ! Drop me a line of you ever feel like chatting about it : )

Thanks for your responses. I seem to have developed an issue with my hair length dating back to 2016. I probably will never cut it shorter than mid back length. I seem to subconsciously like the length between mid back and waist. I just had 3 inches trimmed in July and you cannot tell it was trimmed. I need to chill and enjoy the journey. People have more serious issues.

I guess I have a tough time deciding on a length I like best.
