Hello fellow hair-farmers,
Most of the long-term members of MLHH know me quite well; but a few of you are new to me, as well as visa-versa...
Ken's MLHH history in-a-nutshell:
1) I first discovered this hyperboard in the fall of 2003, gradually getting more & more active by the winter of '04, eventually becoming a "regular" by spring;
2) my good friend, the late Bill Choisser (who wrote "ON BEING A LONGHAIR" -- as well as was a long-time Moderator and MLHH Tech Wizard), helped me to set up my own website, including taking a lot of the pics for my fun Hair Page... which I regret to inform everyone here that I unfortunately let that website go (long story...)....
3) Sometime during that same year (2004), I was honored to be asked if I would join the Moderating Crew. My fellow MLHH Moderators who still remember me from that era can verify: I was hands-down THE most computer-stupid Moderator that MLHH has ever had on their team! But, I *do* have long hair; plus, I can type... I also inherited my grandmother's sharp tongue (but try not to scold people too often with it - LOL)!
4) My handle originally used to be "Longhaired Urban Cowboy" (eventually shortened to just "Urban Cowboy") -- I used to go out C&W dancing a lot back then, including was Sundance Saloon's longtime West Coast Swing dance teacher here in San Francisco.
5) I resigned from being on the Moderating Crew in late 2007. Then a few years later, changed my handle to just, "Ken in SF".
Since I don't know how to post any of my more recent pics, -- because they're all on my cell phone (reminder: I'm well known for my computer-stupidity AND cell phone stupidity) -- I'll have to share some older pics of me, which hopefully I still remember how to upload - LOL)....
If I succeed in posting the first pic of my hair, I believe that selfie was taken in January of 2011, at San Francisco's Ocean Beach -- enjoy!
- Ken

Here's another hair pic from a few years ago, thanks to Mark ("Hairball") -- who frequently comes out to Northern California every September (except for this year in 2020, due to COVID-19).
I tried my best to get my hair to flow down over the rocks; but unfortunately, what you're looking at is my terminal length -- no matter how much I try, it stops growing further!
Hey Mark, I have a question:
Did you take this pic of me in 2012 or 2013?
Thanks in advance whenever you reply!!
- Ken
Nice pic Ken! You and I both have some waves in our hair.
Darrin
Darrin ,your description of your mane sounds outstanding!
Have you ever shaired a pic of it here ?
Vino
Thanks Darrin!
Speaking of waves...
I've always wanted to become a surfer; but I'm too chicken-shit to attempt it on my own (even though at one time in my life I lived directly across from SF's Ocean Beach). Nowadays I'm too old & out-of-shape; so, the only waves I'll ever get to surf are the ones in my hair. (LOL!)
Hi Ken, great to see you finally return to the hyperboard!First off let me answer your question regarding the timeline of your pic.I reviewed cell phone pics I've taken starting from 2012 and looked through all my California trip photos from that year through 2014 and my conclusion is that pic was taken on September 14, 2014.However the pic I took of you was at Sutro Baths and the skies were overcast whereas your pic shows sunny skies. However in my pic compared to yours you were wearing the same color clothes. Its possible we went back another day between our pics thus the difference in the skies.I'll attach my photo as a reply since I'm writing to you on my laptop and my pic is on my cell phone. Those years you mentioned you wore completely different clothes in the photos I have.
On another topic I did not make it out west this year due to the Covid situation as you mentioned.Between that and the smoke from the fires I felt it wasn't a good time to travel out west.I asked my brother and he agreed.Anyway hope all is well with you since we last spoke and that life is treating you well:) Cheers
Mârk

OK Ken, here is my photo of you in 2014. Compared with yours is it the same year? Im thinking different days that same year.

Hey Mark,
Gr8 to hear from u Mark -- and thanks for the nice reply!!
OMG, I look so "underfed" in this pic.... Couldn't you at least have given me a hamburger or something to eat before taking it? my Doc is very worried about my unusual case of Anorexia; but on the other hand, he's told me recently that it looks like I'm doing "just fine" now (LOL)!
As far as clothes go: yes, those clothes indeed look familiar. I still frequently wear a lot of orange (as well as "peach", "apricot", and other fruity colors - LOL); but as far as 2014 VS 2013, I'll go with whatever you say is the correct year, I doubt your camera lies!
It's been a sad year not seeing you come out West this time; but, you were wise just staying at home this September. COVID is not something any of us should mess with!
I hope that by this same time next year, the autumn of 2021 will be a safe time for people to fly and visit each other again, -- ideally, maybe even without having to wear face masks or "social distance" so much. Heck, if countries like New Zealand and Iceland can succeed at being COVID-free, why can't we? I've also read that American Samoa is also Coronavirus-free (they are VERY strict about keeping it that way, too)!
Longhaired Hugz,
Ken
Hi(gh)!
"social distance" so much. Heck, if countries like New Zealand and Iceland can succeed at being COVID-free,
Iceland? Not really: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/iceland/
See you in Khyberspace!

Glad you back Ken. There is away to copy your photos from your phone and past them on the board. If your interested do a google search and it will most likely explain how. I am willing to help you if need assistance.
Darrin
Thanks for your kind reply, Darrin!
I will eventually figure it out -- and/or Google it and fumble around... and/or mess up, with maybe some kind soul correcting me and helping me... I love "playing the violin" a bit, it's a fun way to manipulate people's feelings in order to get some pity for me! (LOL)

Yes I remember you quite well. I loved your geezer comments.
Hi there MG,
Yes, I remember you quite well, too!!
Now that I am really and truly a fully-official "Geezer" (no longer just a young Codger, or an aspiring-geezer "Coot!"), I've even thought about changing my handle to: "LONG-HAIRED GEEZER"... However, for now I'll just stick to the boring, "Ken in SF" -- I'm too lazy to change it anyway!

Hey Ken,
Great to see you back again! I still pop in every once in a while but I've just maintaining my hair length lately so there's not much new to report hairwise.
This photo was taken this summer on a very humid day which caused me to have extra waves/curls and I wanted to capture it.
I'd love to see a current photo of you if you can get some help to post one. You still have long hair and that's the most important part!
Jason
Thanks so much for the kind words Jason!!
At one time in my life (many MANY moons ago....) I had a nice slim waist with a decent 6-pack; but unfortunately nowadays, my 6-pack looks more like a 12-pack -- maybe with even a baby or 2 along for the ride.
My niece's girlfriend, who happens to own her own hair salon, is willing to carefully trim my current terminal-length hair -- once the Pandemic is over (or nearly-over); so, obviously I'm not in a hurry (LOL).... She said she can help me achieve a "sexy Santa" look - ROFL!!!
And yes, eventually I'll post some more recent pics; but for now, in this thread anyway, I'll post what's easy for me to do: the pics that are on my work computer(s), rather than on my iPhone. It feels nice to be back!
- Ken
Have to say your mane has been one of the main reasons I joined this board and continued on growing my hair, such a beautiful head of hair and I'm glad that you're keeping it as long as it can be!
In the meanwhile I'll probably post an update of my own. soon.. been over 3 years since my last buzzcut and I'm more than pleased with the progress so far.
Thanks for the kind reply Yomaku! WOW, I had no idea that my hair inspired others to grow their own manes out....
Yes, please do share an update on your hair! My guess is, judging from your avatar pic, that your hair probably grows quite FAST!!! Re. my own hair, my growth rate seems a bit on the slow side (the "average" person's growth rate I believe I remember hearing was approximately a half-inch per month).
Thanks again for your nice reply!!
