Hey my longhair brothers! Man, its been a long time since I last posted here. Well over a decade. Ive been wanting to post here again for quite some time. I first joined this board back in 2006 when I was about 15 months into one of my grows. People here inspired me to keep growing my hair at a time when the awkward stage was driving me mad. After a while I went into lurker mode where Ive stayed. I'm not a social media person nor post to message boards. This place has a special place in my heart, though. I'm embarking on another grow-out and felt it was time to participate again.
In the summer of 2010 I cut my long hair after growing for 5 years and only came here maybe a few times a year at most to read some posts. The past decade Ive attempted to grow my hair out again a couple times, but life would happen such as getting new jobs and Id cut it. I actually grew my hair out for 20 months between 2018-2020, but ended up cutting it last August since I lost my job and needed to look for another one. Enough hairs wouldnt reach my ponytail and I didnt want the state of my hair to prevent me from getting a job. For this cut I used my old clippers and gave myself a buzz down to 1 inch. I thought of you, Ken (in SF), and your Y2K buzz when I did this...ha! This is where I began when I grew my hair starting in 2005. That time I went 43 months before I got my first trim to even the length all around. That was actually the funnest grow I ever did...buzzing it and just letting it grow naturally for a few years+. This last grow I trimmed the sides and back at about 4 months in because I wasnt planning on growing it long. Ultimately, I ended up letting it grow. What can I say...I don't like haircuts! I didnt really like how it grew after the trim and wasnt too upset when I buzzed it off. Currently, Ive got just over 5 months of growth from the buzz and really want to let it grow out naturally again without trims. Im still in-between jobs, but am hoping I land something soon before my hair starts to get really crazy (cowlicks...argh!!). The jobs Im applying for should be longhair friendly, so Im hopeful that growing my hair out wont be a problem. I just dont look forward to wearing hats everyday again during the awkward phase. But, its what will have to happen and its not forever.
Anyway, its good to see some of you old-timers still around. Ken, Hairball, DavidN, Jason, nuttidave, MarkS and others. Very cool! I hope youre all doing good! I was bummed when I read that Bill passed away, though. I miss that guy and his awesome pictures and travel stories. Ive enjoyed seeing all the progress pictures, etc. Ive seen from the rest of you on this board. Im glad to see mens longhair is still happening. And, I look forward to being a LONG hair again, myself. Im really glad the MLHH board has stuck around. The activity seems to have slowed down some compared to years ago. Still, Im glad the board is still going. I was 33 when I first joined. Im turning 48 this Spring. Crazy. Ive posted a picture showing where my hair was a few months before I cut it in 2010. Id like to get back to that length again. Its the longest Ive ever had my hair. The picture on the right was back in September a month after buzzing it. Ill post some updates as the growth continues. Well, thanks for reading and good luck to everyone on your journey to longhairdom. I hope everybody is doing good and staying safe out there.
Till next time...
~Gman
Greetings Gman,
Very cool to see the alumni return to the community after such a long absence.I certainly remember you as 2006 was around the time I became a regular here.As you can see the board still exists but sadly not nearly as active as it once was.Occasionally
we do have old members reappear which is nice because they still remember us here and what we've stood for.Social media has changed a lot since those early days leaving the mlhh in the dust so to speak but at least we are still here.
Interesting reading about all your different hair journeys over the years but sometimes that happens due to circumstance.Maybe this time will be a keeper? :) As for me I've kept my hair all these decades with the only significant change being my henna hair coloring.Other than that I leave it alone maybe doing a maintenance trim occasionally.
Anyway thank you for stopping in and hopefully you'll come back more often.Have a great week ahead and catch ya later my friend.Cheers!

Mark! One of my 80's rock brothers! :) I admire you for keeping your hair all that time, man. Yeah, social media has changed things on the internet for sure. I've been on the internet since '94 and, I don't know...I'm just old school and still use the internet for looking up info, etc. I was in the IT industry for a couple decades and abandoned it about 5 years ago. I got burnt out and couldn't keep up with all the changes taking place. I dig how the MLHH has stayed the same format all this time!
I'm going to really try and keep my hair growing this time. Once I get to 2 years all my hair will fit in a pony tail for those times I need to look, uh, presentable. Typically, I don't care what people think of my hair. The only exception is employers. Anyway, good to see you still around, my friend. Perhaps after all this Covid stuff is over there can be another West Coast meetup and you can make another trip out.
Take care, bud...and see you around the board!
Hey Gman,
Yea, I'm a true throw back to the 80s as that was my favorite decade based on the metal scene at the time and all the guys growing their hair out then as well.Always admired that when I went to the clubs to see my favorite metal acts with the male fans mostly sporting long hair like the bands! LOL
Yes, the mlhh hasn't changed its format at all but you do know the Bill C. wrote the code for this board and like you mentioned earlier I really miss Bill and so sad that he's not with us anymore.I've actually met Bill on several occasions during my many trips out to California.I believe first meeting Bill in person back in 2008.I really want to return to Cali but didn't this past year because of the Covid restrictions.I'm hoping this year I can make that trip out west again and arrange a couple meetups of our west coast members.
At my age worrying about how others view my longhair is a non issue.I've never caved to cutting my hair short for jobs and at this moment in time I'm thankfully close to retirement anyway.I've only gotten compliments on my hair, mostly because of the color, but I'll take it! LOL.Just keep the faith my friend with your next hair journey and hopefully it'll be you last one ;) Cheers!

My hair back in August a couple months before buzzing it off.
Gman, you hair looks great in that pic so I see another return to longhair glory in your future ;) Cheers!
Mârk
Sorry...I meant a couple WEEKS before buzzing.
Hey Gman!
Great to see you again! I remember your participation here well. That was quite a mane you were sporting in 2010 before you cut it. Your more recent photo from last summer shows that your hair has maintained its quality and no doubt has the potential to even exceed what you had before.
I hear you about jobs. I'm going to be laid off in April after 25 years with one company. Hair has never been an issue but now all of a sudden it may be. I can understand how you felt the need to cut it to get jobs. I'm hopeful that I won't have to resort to that but with a family to feed, I'm going to have to do what it takes.
I'm looking forward to seeing how your current hair journey plays out.
Best,
Jason
Hey there, Jason!
It's good to see you still around the board! I'm sorry to hear you'll be laid off this Spring especially after all that time you put in. I had a good job the past 4 years with a start-up company and the owners were fine with people having long hair. So, I eventually started growing my hair again. Last year the company decided to head in another direction (whatever that meant) and about 90% of us ultimately got let go and replaced. I was the first employee and the most skilled and knowledgeable and I still got the boot. It was a shock, but I got over it. There are other things to do to make a living. But, I did feel it necessary to cut my hair so that it wouldn't be an issue when I interviewed for new jobs. I understand about needing to take care of a family and all that, too, so sometimes we gotta do what we gotta do. Hair can grow back. I wish you the best with the job thing. When one door closes another opens.
I have to say, I dig the longer beard on you. And, of course, your hair is always killer. I hope all is well with you and your little family, brother.
Take care and see you around :)
Hi gman
Its great to hear from you, and thank you for stopping on by and for giving us your update after all these years. You certainly had a great head of hair in 2010, and I look forward to your journey to long hair again.
Thank you for remembering me as well, and of course I remember you. I admit that my participation in the MLHH has been very low lately, mostly in lurking mode, and only posting once in a blue moon or so.
I have been happily retired for over 12 years now, and enjoying my fairly quiet life here in Nova Scotia, Canada. As for my own hair, its been at terminal length for quite some time now, probably just over mid back length. Despite the terminal length being shorter than I would like, at least I feel fortunate that I have a full head of hair and a good hairline, for someone who will be 68 this August. Time really does fly.
Once again, thank you for your update, and I look forward to your future progress.
Kind regards,
David
David!
Good to hear from you! I think you and I joined this board around the same time if I recall correctly. I've enjoyed our time here together all those years ago. I remember when you grew out your beard and definitely feel it suits you very well. Glad to see you are still a longhair, too! I hope your retirement has been going great for you. Must be nice! :) Lots have happened in my life the past decade+ it's hard to condense into a few words. I worked in IT forever and was married with two kids. I got out of IT and started working in production the past 4-5 years. It's been awesome being on my feet and doing something physical for a change. Back in 2017 my marriage unfortunately dissolved and my ex moved out two years later and took our kids (both teenagers now). My son is about to graduate high school and be an adult. Time flies for sure. I've been living the single life and focusing on being a good dad and enjoying my hobbies. I was able to keep my home, so that's good. All-in-all, I'm doing well and continuing to move forward. This past year with Covid and all that has been challenging. But, I'm thinking good thoughts that we'll all get out of this sooner than later.
Well, I'm happy to be participating on this board again. And I look forward to continued interaction with you and the others. Take care, my friend, and I'll see you around :)
Hi Gman,
Nice pics, great update -- and thanks also for remembering me!
Yes, I remember you, too. It was a very active time in the history of this website; but, rather than get too nostalgic about the past, let's just say that every era has its challenges, plus of course moments of inspiration.
OMG, you look as if you're still in your 30s.... regardless of whether your hair is short or long! My cousin on the opposite side of North America recently told me that I look just like Santa Claus -- and unfortunately, I pretty much agree!! And now that we all pretty much universally wear face masks during this horrible Pandemic, for "entertainment" I've decided to grow out my beard, too..... Hey, why not? I call it my "Pandemic beard!"
Until I can figure out how to share pics taken with my iPhone, uploading it here on MLHH, you'll have to just believe me though!
One minor correction about something you sai, though:
When I impulsively cut my waist-length hair short in Y2K, it was NOT a buzz-cut. It was just a "typical men's short hair" style. When I was a kid though, yes, every summer my dad would buzz my hair as well as all 4 of my brother's hair off. I totally HATED it -- even though nowadays I can look back on some of those childhood pics and admit that I was "cute" with that look (LOL)!!
Welcome back Gman!
- Ken
Hey Ken!
My bad...I could have sworn you buzzed your head. I stand corrected. I'm glad my hair has grown some since the buzz. It has it's perks, but buzzes are not for me long-term. It's a good starting off point for some of us.
Santa Claus...that's funny. Santa with long hair, though! ;) Growing my beard longer has been something I've done a few times the past decade. What I found out, though, is wearing a mask with a longer beard can cause this crease that looked funny on me. I basically have to shower and shampoo my beard to get rid of it...ha ha! I hope you're enjoying your long beard. It's fun to grow out :)
Well, brother...it's good to see you still around here and I look forward to continue chatting with you. I hope all is well in your world.
Take care!
Hey there, stranger!
Welcome back!
- Oren
Hey Oren! Good to see you're still around here! I remember you are into analog synths like I am. I hope you're still tinkering away!
Welcome back !
Great to see you decided to start another journey. I too was like you, regretfully cut it for economics. Was without my name for almost 10 years. I too lurked back here but could not bare to post since I no longer had my mane. Good luck and prayers sent your way on your job search. Will anticipate your updates to your progress
Nastrovia !
Steve
Hey Gman
Good to see you again, your hair was awesome - it certainly suited you and I'm sure it will again.
Ive been down the short hair route now for years and every time i get a maintenance trim the barber seems to completely muck it up, so at the moment I'm growing again and will have to find someone that knows what they are doing.
Anyway, great to hear from you, take care
Dave
