Hi Guys, apologies I have been absent for awhile. I am moving to Sydney from Cape Town in South Africa. I will be looking for a job in Sydney as an urban designer/ architect. I will also look for jobs anywhere in Australia. I will take whatever opportunities come my way. I am 59 years, so that could count against me. Plus being a newcomer. Currently, I have been working for myself, so my hair hasn't been an issue. I have been growing it out for more than 10 years I think. Its slow progress, but I think still growing. My dilemma has been if I should cut it for the job search in Australia or not. I have decided not to cut it. Just neaten it up a bit (trim the ragged ends) and then tie it back. Also, dress very neatly. But, continue to grow it. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you. Lance
Website of my architectural work. Also painting and sketching.
I would think that your hair would not be an issue. I would just wear it in a neat pony tail at the interviews. I am a Technician and never had an issue finding a job due to my hair. I am 54 .

Thank you Darrin, that is very helpful. Lance
Your welcome Lance,
I have experienced the occasional employer who will test your values. They will ask if your willing to cut your hair? I tell them very firmly no. My issue is what will they try to change or complain about next? I dont want to work for close minded companies. Even after saying no, I have gotten the job all but once in 32 years! I realize some individuals have circumstances that may inhibit them from being like me. However, I have always placed money behind my core values . Good luck with your future endeavors.
