Hi everyone, I am an ex-longhair and long-ago poster here at the MLHH. I cut my hair several years ago (boo!), but have decided to grow it long again. I'm 54, and obviously have a more mature hairline now, but hoping it turns out well. I am about 5-6 months in to growing from a buzz cut, with a self-administered undercut around the holidays so the top could grow down to about my hears before earnestly starting to grow all the way around. I am posting link to a video of where I am now, and in the thread will post a couple other recent pics and a couple from when my hair was long. Any feedback and encouragement is most welcome as I am just about to enter the awkward stage in earnest. I am so glad this board still exists, and happy to see quite a few familiar faces from back in the day :) Philip

Hi Philip,
Its really cool to see more guys over 50 growing out their hair. I just had a quick look at your video, and it does look as though you have excellent hair to work with for growing long. I look forward to your future progress, and also look forward to seeing how long your hair was in the past.
Im 72 myself, and happy to have a decent head of hair at my age. I actually have a YouTube channel, and although most of the videos are about my clock collection, I do have a few long hair videos as well, which I posed in the last couple of months. My channel is called Davids clocks and long hair, if youre interested.

Hi David,
Thanks for replying and the kind words! I checked out your YouTube videos, you have amazing hair and especially amazing for 72, really stellar, I hope my hair comes out as well as yours! I posted some
New pics, waiting for approval. They are low resolution so Ill try to find some
Better quality pics to post at some point.
Thanks again for the encouragement,
I think my biggest problem at the moment is impatience, but cant rush hair growth so just trying to appreciate the journey. :)

Hi Philip,
Thank you for your kind words. I agree that long hair takes time and patience to grow, and Im sure that youll grow a mane to be proud of. Ill be sure to check out your photos once you post them.
David

Just a follow up, this is a pic of my current hairline, which I think is okay for 54 years old..

And another follow up, this pic is where I am hoping to get back to in a year or two :) (this pic was actually retrieved from the mlhh archives from ~2006, sorry I don't have any higher resolution images to share at the moment!)

One last historical pic, this is a bit older than the previous one, before I had a couple inches trimmed off and you can see the texture of my hair a bit better. I think my hair has changed some in the ensuing decade+ but I am hoping it looks similar, but will be more silver than it used to be. (another one lifted from the mlhh archives)
Hi Philip,
Wow, Im really impressed with this photo, and I had no idea that you had achieved such length. I hope that you can reach your former length, or even longer.
Also, I saw your other photo of your hairline, and you look to be as good as gold, with your hairline still excellent. I look forward to seeing how long you can grow it. I was also wondering whether you had a goal in mind, or do you just plan to grow it as long as possible?
David
Hey David!
Thanks, yeah this is when my hair was about mid-back length. I am not sure if I will grow it this long again, but I definitely want my hair to be past my shoulders, probably like the other picture I posted. I'll have to see how I feel once I get there :D I probably have about 2 years minimum before I have to decide.
I am glad to hear that my hairline still looks okay to you. I had never really given it much thought until I decided to grow my hair out again, but I've been slightly worried about it now. You'd think by mid-50s I'd be accustomed to, and willing to accept, the changes of growing older, but it's still hard for me to wrap my head around!
Thank you so much for the feedback and encouragement! I will you updated on my progress. There probably won't be much to see for a few months, but I am really looking forward to the point where my bangs reach my chin, but that will probably be in 2027. It sounds so far away!
Thank you again!
Philip
Hi Philip,
I am sure that all will go well with your hair growing journey.
I have noticed that this site has very little activity these days, and I hope that it survives. There is a note, when I load the page, that an update to the website is planned at some time in the future, which will bring it up to more modern standards. Mark (Hsirbsll): would know better, since he has been more or less running the complete site these days, but I havent seen him in ages. Hopefully, he will stop by and give us an update as to the sites status in the near future.
I have been posting over on Reddit, on the FierceFlow community, and its very active there.
