I was curious what techniques that could be suggested for this horrible "in-between" stage. I plan to wear a ponytail at work, and although my hair grows abnormally fast, I have in two months reached the "awkward" stage. It is still too short for a decent looking tail (although I can pull it back to about a two incher) and yet with it down, it sprawls all over the collar of my starched shirts. (I was happy with the two inch tail, but between my wife and Bill C. (darn you!), the suggestion was to let it grow some more to get a "decent looking tail".)

The best I can recommend is to just follow the rule: neat and clean. Having gone back and forth in hair length until I decided to finally go all out [currently down to between mid-back and waist] I can sympathize with you. If you're going for the 'all-one-length' look, but need to lett the front catch up with the back or just letting the back grow long then a good choise may be to let it hang loose but well groomed. If you feel a need to keep it under control, then I would suggest using some type of gell or mouse to hold it in place in the work place. Mind you, I give that piece of advice having never used then myself short of my dad's Vitalus when I was in my youth. A little care and will go a long way to look good during the 'in-between phase'. Personally, I'm no fan of the 'tuck-the-bangs-behind-the-ears' look, but thats just me.
Hope it helps, just don't give up. It'll all be worth it quite soon.
I would agree with Eric. . .use some gel to keep it back. If it grows as fast as you say it does, it definitely wont be long before you can simply pull it all back. . .and it IS worth it.
Keep growing!
