Does anyone ever wonder that how come every other guy you meet hast the same hair band? The black rubber band you buy at the drug store?
You'd rarely see anyone wearing a more "feminine"color, let alone a different kind of hair band( large terry-clothed ,or scrunchy)
I myself wears only a black band out, so I'm in no position to judge.
But whenever I talk to some friends/acquitances(w/pony tail) about why they wear their ponytail in a black hairband, they would try to act like they don't know what I'm about, or laugh or change the topic. Anything to avoid an answer.
The obvious answer is the black band is the most masculine color. But I'd like to know what you guys think, or does anyone wear any other style hair bands?
I actually wear the other colors, like the dark versions of blue, purple, red, and green. I occasionally wear the white and yellow too. I usually match them to the shirt I'm wearing.
I do tend to wear the black when I may find myself with other more conservative people, and I do notice that I shy away from the pink spectrum altogether.
It's part of the stereotype---it's ingrained within us as males about what is or is not acceptable.
I personally like the colors, and neither my friends, acquaintances, etc. have ever negatively commented when I wear them.
black isn't the only option... i prefer black because it's the most masculine, but i would wear blue, purple, green, or red- whatever... color isn't very important to me. for that matter, most of my t-shirts are black, too.
as far as different kinds; i look at a hair band less as a fashion accessory and more as a way of keeping my hair out of my face & food. for that matter, it's almost a necessity at work as i set up and operate press machines... i tie it up and keep it inside my shirt; i'd hate to get it tangled up in a running cutting press or ink roll. ouch!
anyway, that's why i usually wear only a black hair tie.
Bill's web page has some pretty damn cool hair band links

I plan on getting one o two of those metal ones and maybe one of those pretty cool highlander ones. I think they'd make a nice conversation starter with a woman!
Interesting comment, I have only had enough hair to tie back for about 4 months now, and absolutly love it, but I have standardized on a RED ponytailer, (it matches my truck, LOL) anyway, wear whatever feels good!
Though I usually wear my hair loose, I do have a few hair accessories which I use when I must. In shopping for them I've noticed a definite trend when it comes to colors:
The more masculine things tend to be in "pure" colors - a color without any white mixed in, such as red.The more feminine things tend to be in "pastel" colors - colors that do have white mixed in, such as pink.
Often in the drugstore, hair accessories will come in packages that contain several different colors. If you look carefully at the packages, quite frequently there will be two different sets of colors. One will have an assortment of pure colors and the other an assortment of pastels. The intent of the marketers of this stuff was for you, as a male, to grab a package with the pure colors!
This same scheme is carried into clothing in general. That is why in a department store you can often tell the women's section at a glance. The colors are different! I'm not saying there aren't colors that look good on both sexes, but there are colors at the extremes that do carry a sex message. At least those in the fashion business think so, or we wouldn't see notes in catalogs such as those we see that say certain colors are available in female styles or sizes only!
As with fashion in general, women can get away with "cross-dressing" far more than men can. So they may feel okay with the more masculine pure colors. Thus seldom are things available in a color only in male styles or sizes. But as a male you will probably want to avoid the more feminine colors, and this applies to hair accessories as well as clothing.
Understandably, black is readily felt to be a "safe" color, but with this information in hand, maybe a few of you will feel more comfortable venturing out into other pure colors that also give a male look!
Black isn't the only option! If I tie my hair I use white or bright blue bands because black (or brown) doesn't fit to my black hair! I wear my hair tied now as a top tail using white bands!

I have actually been thinking about getting the tailor to save the excess material and make matching scrunchies to go with my suits, the next time I get one tailored! What do you all think about this concept? Too feminine?
Not in the least. I recently bought a 3-pack of scrunchies that match a few shirts I wear. Ya see, there's one thing you've got to understand about the biggest difference between a scrunchie and a hair band: YOU PULL OUT LESS HAIR WHEN YOU REMOVE A SCRUNCHIE. Plus, they're DAMN comfortable.
Just wanted to mention that I've found that I hardly ever pull out any hairs with standard, drugstore hairbands -- which I wear almost every day -- since I started removing them by pinching the hair immediately behind the band, rather than by pulling on the band itself.
Once I've moved the band far enough down to loosen it a bit and get a firm grip on the hair behind it, it seems to help to pull opposite sides of the band alternately, rather than pull it straight off. For example, pull the part of the band at the top of the hair down a quarter inch or so, then pull the opposite side down, then the top again, etc.
I usually go weeks between times that a hair gets pulled out with the band, and that's usually because the hair get lodged in the metal clamp.

who cares
No, it doesn't sound feminine, if it's not very, um, poofy, if that's the word. Some scrunchies are a lot bigger and poofier than others. :-)
Sounds like a great idea!

When I first started growing my hair long, I couldn't find any hair ties in black. Sure you could buy packages of multicolored bands and use just the black ones, but that seemed like a waste. Then, when I visited El Paso, I noticed that MOST of the bands were black. I'm sure this is because of the proximity to Mexico and all the black hair running around.
Now my favorite band (if you can call it that) is a burgundy colored velvet scrunchy. Actually it's not even a scrunchy, or maybe it is. One side of it (the inside after it's all wrapped) does not have all the frills. Only the material that will eventually be on the outside if frilly. As Nyghtfall says, these are very comfortable and don't pull hair like regular bands do.
These days, when I wear a band, I don't pay much attention to the color except occasionally to match with whatever else I'm wearing.
I usually choose the color hair tie according to what I'm wearing, and my mood. Today, I happened to go out of the house wearing a pink terry cloth one. It happened to contrast well with the earthy green t-shirt and shorts I'm wearing.
