At first, growing a beard is like growing the hair on your head from
a buzzcut...but that's where the similarities begin to END...
SOCIAL RESISTANCE:
Yes...the Beard can be hated as much as long hair and lots of
people can give you a very hard time about it.
So growing a beard or growing hair long can be equally tough.
GROWING TIME:
Well, I've seen some guys get a decent-looking Beard in about a month...Okay, so it was short but it still looked like a Beard.
COMPARE that to growing hair long...What's a month's growth worth?!
AWKWARD PHASE[s]:
I used to have a beard years ago and I hardly remember going through
much of [if any] an awkward phase...Yes, at first it looked like I
had forgotten to shave, but that quickly passed.
Compare that to the long hair AWKWARD PHASE: aaaaaaaaaaahhhh!!!
What more can I say/
ANY Beard owners out there who disagree with this?
(Yeah, I know you CAN be hated for your BEARD as much as a Longhair can be for the length of his hair...
Besides, some men are Bearded Longhairs!!!!!
WHAT's your opinion about all of this?
true. this relates to what i wrote about the comparison of the length of top hair, but the presence of a beard.
if most men also shaved their heads daily(or however often men shave their faces), you would have a thick head of hair in a month, even though it would be short.
the thing that would remain the same as now though, is that no matter what the awkward stage is considered to be for the beard, stubble or six inches, etc., it will not fall into your face. well, unless you are hanging upside down, which is rather uncommon for me.
Hmmmmmm...I didn't even think of THAT! Good point!
Starting to get some reactions....my hair is mid back and I have a pretty good beard happening!
I can see how you relate beard growing to hair growing, but I have to disagree with you a little bit...BEARD AWKWARD IS NO WAY IN HELL AS PAINFUL AS HEAD HAIR AWKWARD!!! Ok then, that release felt kinda good.
As a person with a long beard and long hair who used to be have short hair and no beard, I think I'm qualified to answer this question.
I agree with this.
In my experience, beard hair grows at the same rate as scalp hair, at least on me. Going from bald to crewcut is probably what you need to compare to shaven to decent beard, though. Your standard haircut is composed of longer hairs than your standard beard is. So growing long hair takes longer than growing a long beard even with the same growth rate.
That is true. However, have you ever had a moustache hair curve upward and wave in front of your eye? Annoying. And it doesn't even have to poke up that far to interfere with your peripheral vision. Other than that, the corresponding version of the awkward stage for a beard is scruffy. Hardly anyone likes a scruffy beard. Once it gets significantly longer than scruffy, though, people start appreciating it again, and even strongly suggest you never cut it.
You don't say!
