Favorite Bands:
Nightwish - Power Metal at its best. This band formed in 1997 as an experiment in acoustics mixed with Opera. The demos they released quickly proved that Opera is simply too overpowering for any acoustic guitar. Having come from other metal bands, they decided to go electric and managed to introduce their lead vocalist, a trained Opera singer named Tarja Turunen, to the majesty that is Metal. What resulted is a wet dream for anyone with a fine palette for what has appropriately been termed by the music industry as Opera Metal.
Enigma - There is no better music to meditate to in the world.
Sarah McLachlan - Before she sold out and began producing more commercially viable material. I'm convinced Lilith Fair ruined her.
Cyndi Lauper - I have all of her albums, but, sadly, only like those songs that managed to see radio play.
Dream Theater - There's no two ways about it. These guys just rock. The first time I heard, "Pull Me Under," I thought, 'there's no way anyone is this good!' I then went to see them in concert, here in Kansas City, and was quite pleasantly proven wrong. They are that good!
Savatage - This band seems to be an amalgam of experimentation. They've produced nothing that's radio friendly that I know of. That's not to say they're music is controversial. Quite the contrary in fact. It's just so completely 'out there' that few people outside of their fan base could really ever get into it.
Bon Jovi - The ultimate in party rock. I dare anyone to listen to "Dead or Alive" and not come out with an insane urge to strap a guitar to your back, grab a motorcycle, and just ride wherever the road takes you.
The Cult - Another great party band.
Other favorites include:
Fates Warning
Guns 'n Roses
Blondie
Enya
Danny Elfman
Midnight Oil
Men at Work
Tompson Twins
'Til Tuesday
T'Pau
The Cure
Paradise Lost
Snakeriver Conspiracy
Concrete Blonde
Rob Zombie
Ozzy Osbourne
Museum
Queenzryche
Depeche Mode
Type O Negative
Souxsie & the Banshees
Here's a sample MP3 from my current top favorite metal band, Nightwish. It's called Sleeping Sun. It's my favorite song by them.
If the above sample doesn't work, you're welcome to listen to it at my web site:
I just listened to some Nightwish songs and they are really good! What would be a good cd of theirs to buy?
Start with "Over the Hills and Far Away". The title track kicks too much ass to be missed!
Try also old King Diamond, which was the best Opera-Metalist.
Fatal portrait
Abigail
Them
Conspiracy
The eye
Also the 2001/2002 project of Tobias Sammett
Avantasia 100% pure Opera Metal
My five favorites?
1. Steely Dan
2. Enya
3. Herbert Von Karajan conducting the Berlin Philharmonic
4. Zepplin
5. Stevie Ray Vaughan
I got more, but these are the first five to come to mind. I would also like to give honorable mention to Cake. "Comfort Eagle" is way cool.
The Rev
1)Pearl Jam
2)Metallica (new more than old)
3)U2
4)Queen
5)Red Hot Chili Peppers
Many more than that. Alot of classical/orchestral music too.
I bet you enjoyed "S&M" as much as I did. I thought it was amazing. I just don't think they'll ever be the same without Jason, though. I went to high school with him and if you ever get the chance to check out Echobrain, you really need to do so. I don't know anything about this "Voivod", though.
...: 2)Metallica (new more than old)...
...: Alot of classical/orchestral music too.
Hi,
you should listen rather to Old Metallica. That`s where most people think they were best.
The truth about Metallica is that many people (incl. myself) stopped listening to them, just because they cut their hair.
Sad but true.
Same for me, it's like Metallica and Michael Bolton don't exist anymore.

I'm feeling a little out of place on this post, but I'm w/ you, dude. 5 is way too few. As for me, I'm into pretty much any music someone can throw out there. I've got a very wide variety in my CD collection. Some of the more unique ones:
Pavarotti (I'll bet I spelled that wrong.)
Grandpa Jones (Bluegrass)
The Chieftains
But my top 5 are constantly changing. (With the exception of #1.) Currently they are . . .
1. Blink 182
2. Counting Crows
3. Dashboard Confessional
4. The Benjamins
5. Travis
I'm also really into Barry Manilow, and John Denver, and stuff like that. I don't know. Guess I have musical schizophrenia.
1. Iced Earth
2. Dream Theater
3. Trans-Siberian Orchestra
4. King Diamond
5. Zakk Wylde (his acoustic and southern rock material from the first two albums, I hate the new BLS stuff)
Hell yeah! Iced Earth and (especially) Dream Theater kick ass! You've got TSO on there; where's Savatage? =o
If it weren't for TSO's x-mas eve and other stories cd, Savatage would definately be on my list and not TSO... but I just love that cd way too much. Savatage rocks too though.
I'm lucky enough to have known a couple of the dudes that were in Iced Earth... they are from Tampa (GO BUCS?, I used to work with them at a landscaping company!!! They were a wild bunch of dudes;) Went to my first Mettallica concert with them in Lakeland I think.... (I was definitely a bit buzzed that night;) Some of my faves...
