Thank you all for participating in my informal poll on buying/selling hair. It seems you all are nearly unanimous in your tolerance for hair buyers. Reading all the posts, both here and via email, and re-examining my own thoughts, I have come to what I think is a very good compromise. No wait a minute. How could it be a compromise if everyone is for the posts here. Anyway, here is what I've decided. While posts regarding buying/selling long hair are not necessarily at odds with the intent of this site, they could be. Furthermore, it is a subject that flirts too closely with commercialism, something I've always tried to avoid on the board. Nevertheless, I do see a value to the posts and therefore, I'm taking this opportunity to announce the creating of a new hair board.
I've just created a message board specifically for buying/selling hair. As of this writing it's only minutes old, but I expect it will be used regularly. Because of the somewhat different nature of the material, purging guidelines will be different there. I will purge posts by request for misposts, blatantly offensive posts, and old posts based only on date.
If you have an outstanding buy/sell post on this board that you wish to keep posted for a while, please move it to the other board. I will be purging them the first Saturday of June from here.
Any questions/comments/gripes, please address on the other board or directly to me via e-mail. This is all very new, and I expect to do some work this weekend on all my sites to get things up-to-date and running better.
THANK YOU for creating the Board of my dreams! I assure you that will be keeping the Buy/Sell Hair Board active!

Personally, I don't see a need for a whole new board for this...they really were'nt bothering us.
they didn't bother me, either... but i suspect they bothered the webmaster. that being the case, the new board is certainly a solution. our opinion aside, i suspect that the point of this board is for men with long hair (and others) to discuss related issues and to provide support for one another w/out being bombarded by commercialism. it would hardly be construed as objective if someone were struggling w/the decision whether or not to cut his hair if someone were to bombard him with cash offers for the clippings. the decision to cut should be made before- and not as a result of- the decision to sell.
i do respect that you might differ with me... that's ok.
Yeah, the commercialism was beginning to rub a bit here, too. Plus the fact that there were more than one of them, and they were beginning to treat longhairs like a slice of bread being fought over by park pigeons.
A post or two a month was fine, but last week we saw so many hair-buying posts it seemed they were half of the messages posted. I'd really hate to see this board descend into an environment where the vultures come to feed, and dinner is us. An occasional post was fine, but the whole flock had discovered our hospitality and was flying in.
Face it, we all know how tough it is to find any place where there are lots of longhairs. Well, this board is one of those rare places, and there's big bucks to be made from scalping a longhair. So we can hardly blame them for alighting here to feed.
Victor's solution is a good one. It maintains this as a space where the theme is to have long hair. Having the hair buyers' board provides an "out of sight, out of mind" option to the longhair who does decide to cash out, while sparing us from the vulture mentality that was quickly arising here.
...and now that they have a designated "feeding hole", the 'clipper of carrion' who disregards the rules can have his (or her) message kicked with some justification. i wasn't personally offended by the messages, then again, i make it a point not to let alot of offensive things get to me.
