Hello everyone,
I am a uni student in Australia, and for an assignment i am currently doing, i would love to hear your answers in response to the topic of the politics of hairstyle.
Q1) Why did you choose your hairstyle?
a)To rebel against the "proper" hairstyles of society and to relaim/state/embrace your individuality: yes/no why?
b)To be associated with music or some other subgroup: yes/no what group? Do people see this?
Q2) a)Do you ever get negative responses, are you ever looked down upon, seen as a less masculine, seen as a undisciplined, dumb or lazy (even though it takes more discipline to maintain a healthy head of long hair).
b) Does head hair have to be an issue of gender?
If you have any other points, or any other information sources that you think would assist me, please feel free.
cheers, l i a m
yes, I see no reason to wear my hair a certain way because society says so.
I am into rock music, but that isnt the ONLY reason I like long hair.
Many times. If I got a dollar for every time I was stereotyped because of my hair, well...you know.
Absolutely not. Long hair is natural, and if men werent meant to have long hair, then it wouldnt grow!
hello
a little i guess- more the individuality end of that question
no
not to my face.
no it doesn't... and as far as i'm concerned it isn't. the fact that some people cant get past hair length as an issue of gender identity isn't my piece of baggage
Q1) Why did you choose your hairstyle?
i can't really pick one of the choices you put because my reason isnt either of them,
it's pretty simple, because i like how long hair looks
but you guess you could say A
i don't purposly rebel against society but i don't think society has the right to tell you how to wear your hair, long or short
i had short hair for years because I wanted short hair, and i have long hair now because I want it long, i just have it how i want it and don't really care what society thinks of it, besides this society is backwards, in the ancient world long hair was the norm and short hair was only for slaves
2)Do you ever get negative responses, are you ever looked down upon, seen as a less masculine, seen as a undisciplined, dumb or lazy (even though it takes more discipline to maintain a healthy head of long hair).
i guess so in a way, because alot of people are ignorant
i never get the less masculine thing because of my build and personality are definetly male, infact i think i look MORE masculine with the long hair then with the buzzcut i used to have, most common one i've gotten are people either think i'm a biker or a hippie, which i don't mind at all :-)
NO!, in my opinion both genders look better and more natural with long hair, almost like it's how you were meant to look when the lord created you,
In order to be myself. I'm not bothered what other people do, or what is considered the 'norm'.
No - no association with or influence from any group, muscial or other wise.
I am sometimes seen as being more caring and considerate than men with buzz cuts. I would aim always to be both of these.
No.
You will find all the comments, linksand info you need right here on this board.
I for one would be interested to hear the results of your studies. Will you post us some of your conclusions once you complete your studies?
Nope, not really.
Uh-uh.
c. because I've always felt like I needed long hair.
From the family, yes. From other people, no.
No, not at all.
