Hi, I have Italian/Sicilian hair and am desperately in need of advise on relaxing it. In the past I have simply used perm solution, combing it straight for 20 minutes, then neutralizing. The problem is that this seems to dry out and damage the hair and also the process seems to partially reverse after time. It is still pretty dried out and damaged looking from a straight perm I did 6 months ago.
I have not tried the relaxing creams marketed to the african-american population as I have heard you have to be very precise with the timing or end up bald and with scalp burns!
I would like to leave in some wave, but remove about 3/4 of the curliness.
Any specific product suggestions (if so where to get them -the local beauty supplies only stock perms) or other adivise?
Please email if possible: Toponder@bigfoot.com
Thanks very much for any advise.
Jeff
For minimum damage, use large curlers (as large as possible). Otherwise, go to a salon that can give you some professional advice. All relaxers will damage your hair. However, I've heard there are some products that have been introduced recently that are not so damaging as the older chemicals.
Thanks Victor, but I wouldn't want to use any curlers as I am trying to straighten the hair. If you know the names of those new products please let me know. How about those Robert Craig rinse-out products? Thanks.
I know it seems counterintuitive, but you can use curlers to straighten your hair, particularly if, as you say, you want to leave some wave in your hair. Just use very large curlers.
