The problem is that there is zero traffic on the list. It's worse
than IRC. Everybody was so enthusiastic about the list ("Ooh! Sign
me up!") that you'd think they'd have volumes to say; yet nobody
says anything.
Oh, I did try to start a conversation several times. I get only one
or two responses, then it falls back into dead silence. Sigh...

I can relate to that. I have the same comment about picture submissions to my long hair site. I set it up as a service to everyone who is reading this message. I don't have a wealth of pictures myself and am too busy to go hunt for them. I've gotten several queries about when the pages will be updated. The simple answer is: when I get enough submissions from you. I have put up a second gallery page, but I don't have any pictures (or text for that matter) for the other sections. The success of this site depends upon you, so send in your pictures.
I'm not interested in doing one on one email exchanges of pictures. I will post pictures here when they become available. If you want to exchange pictures with me, submit yours, and it will get posted. The exchange from me will consist of contributions that I publish on the pages.
In short, this site will be as successful as you make it.
