I stopped to listen to Metallica, when they cut their hair...and anyway it seems that what they put out after that (haircut) is a "load" of cr@p.
How many of you guys stopped to listen to them because of the haircut?
I stopped listening to them when the Napster fiasco began. Lars recently pretty much sealed my growing disdain for them when, while giving their Internet-based audience a tour of their new recording studio, he pointed to a piano their temporary bassist had brought to help flesh out some melodies and assured everyone, "Don't worry, folks, you'll never hear this."
Now, I happen to love the piano, and for Larz to dis one just pissed me off. I used to love them, but all their success has gone straight to their heads.
I'm with you. Once they pulled their little Napster thing, I officially became an ex-fan.
I will never, ever support that lame band again.
There's greed, then there's GREEEEED! I hope their next album bombs!
By the way, Newsted left because of the Napster deal. He wasn't in agreement and walked away. I have respect for him. But the others can kiss my azz!
Please go to a pop music board. Although I've responded to [some] posts about bands (I'm getting tired of it)-- frankly I come here for discussions about HAIR -- as I'm sure many others do as well. Hair and music have NOTHING AT ALL to do with each other. Can those of us with differing views on which bands are or are not lame just agree to disagree? Your post accomplishes nothing other than to let us know that most commercial bands are greedy --what
a newsflash!
Who the hell wastes their time reading about the greed-driven music business anyway? Geez.
Sorry Pal -- couldn't resist. We all have certain interests and biases, and sometimes our other interests lap over into our fixation on the most important thing in our lives: our hair.
I think you'd have to be a mighty shallow fan to stop listening to a band solely because they alter their appearance; Metallica were never about looks, for their old stuff truly was about the music. We're talking about what used to be a 'real' band here, not some product of the recording industry like O Town or Nsync.
I've been discontent with metallica for quite some time, but the way they turned on the very fans that made them rich (See the history of Napster) was the nail in the casket.
the gift of songwriting because of the haircut?
Like SampSon's strength went out with Delilah's nice haircut
she gave him.
Interesting theory... But isn't it true that they still had long hair when they made the Black album, which wasn't quite terrible, but wasn't really great (in other words, that was the album that marked the transition from classic Metallica to sell-out-ica, but was conceived whilst they still had their locks)? I might be wrong on that, but that's what I'm led to believe... I'll admit my ignorance on the matter since I used to only care about the band for their music (of course, things took a turn circa Napster's downfall).
AMEN! I'm so glad somebody finally said it. Sure, long hair makes more impact when performing, but that doesn't have a damn thing to do with their talent. This is terrible, I know, but I went to high school with Jason in Michigan right before he quit school and although he was always the sweetest person I knew, I thought he was kinda ugly. I realize I'm in the minority here, but I was amazed by how much better he looked with the haircut. It didn't hurt his head-banging or face-making one bit. ~LOL~ I still have tremendous respect for their talent, but I truly believe Jason is better off without them.
I would never ever stop listening to any band i liked just because they changed their looks in any way. I stopped listening to Metallica because after the black album everything they've done is pure crap.
How many of you guys stopped to listen to them because of the haircut?
I listen to them because I used to drive their tour bus. Then, after being subjected to them for long periods of time, decided it was easier to enjoy their music than to dis-like it. It's still ok. It's just changed, ("different"), as we, and all things, change as we age.
i'm not a fan of any bands. i just listen to music if it moves me. so, i never really "followed" anything that happened with metallica. i have some music under the artist classification "metallica" but i don't usually think of the artist/band name as more than the letters which i use to identify the music i like and the music i don't. not that i don't appreciate what musicians have done for the world, but i don't believe music is about musicians. (yes, i still listen to metallica's songs.)
sorry, i don't know what this has to do with hair.
