Its taking forever for hair to get long. I'm seeing all these people with long hair walking around...and then there is me. Hair that doesn't want to get any longer, and stays the same queer shape. If I gel it everyday, it will slow the growth..wear a hat all the time..slow it down..Toss me the miracle pill. All I want to do is, tie it back..I don't need waist length hair..just enough to tie back evenly..
This is not a good hair day
Let me give you more detail..
Only been growing for about 4 months. My hair is pretty much where it wants..not long enough to tie back..and not short enough to not be everywhere. It teases me when I turn my head, and feel it shifting..feels like its longer then it is.
Need some encouragement...or pics of people that have been growing for 7 months..show me what I have ahead of me..
Here's the encouragement. Welcome to the awkward stage. It is, quite frankly, the initiation, the rite of passage, for all men who would enter this brotherhood of longhairs. You main whine (like many of us have), use various hair applications, take vitamins that promise to make your hair grow faster (it won't)--like many of us have, and then, you live today, and you live as well as you can, or not. And in a couple of years, you will be fully initiated. Unless--you cut your hair in the meantime, in which case you will repeat what you are going through right now over and over again.
As difficult as it is, this period of the awkward stage has a lot to show you. Grab the reins, man, and hang in there.
Robert
Thanks for all the encouragement.
I'm just gonna say screw it, and suck it up...
Long as there be gels, and clay..I can deal with it..
Just 2 questions, and I will be settled.
Will gel, or clay slow the growth? Will wearing a hat?
Nope.
Oh, for f**k's sake, whaddaya want, a chia-pet for a head?
I'm sorry my previous message lacked the words of encouragement you were asking for. I just sometimes grow weary of the seemingly constant requests for encouragement whenever people enter the "awkward stage". I admit, however, it's a rather a defeating attitude, considering this is a support board. I think I may need to consider taking another hiatus away from the forum for a while.
All I can say is stick with it. It's definitely not the most pleasurable experience, but you'll thank yourself in the end.
Good luck.

Oh, I hope not! We need us long-time longhairs around to balance all the newbies!
The board has certainly gone through phases. We oldies were around when anything short of waist-length hair was considered 'short hair'.
Then came the era when people were disappearing and we had all the 'hair sale' posts.
Now, we have a new era where many young people are discovering the joy and tribulations of growing out their hair for the first time. The internet wasn't around when we went through that phase so we don't have it as a personal reference.
Four months is not a very long time to be growing hair considering the full picture. The full picture is revealed after about two years of growth where worrying about growth from there on out will be a memory. Hang in there with the rest of awkward stagers including myself. Bide your time and try not to think too much about it, it will only drive you more insane. Think real hard back over the years, man. Two years (well, actually one year/eight months since you've already went four months) isn't really that long of a wait, is it? Peace!
We all know what you are going through, because we've been there or we are there still. I live in a world in which I hang out with several long haired friends. My hair is about about 7 inches and they make me look like I have a buzz cut. I also work with a company filled with engineers with military haircuts. They make me look like a long haired "wild man". Celebrate where YOU are. I know your hair is longer than it was 120 days ago. Try not to think of it so much. Every once in awhile your hair will remind you with a good hair day. When that happens.....celebrate!
Peace,
Petros
I don't see how gel slows it down, except perhaps in appearance.
I went through the awkward stage by not using shampoo, but just rinsing in warm water each day. This kept most of the natural oil in and the hair would just flow down my neck and back, and not come over my face at all!
True, the hair had a 'heavy' appearance during this time, but not really a 'greasy' appearance.
On the other hand, the heaviness would make it difficult to work out tangles once the hair became more than a foot long, so I then went back to shampoo and conditioner. But by then it was easy to tie in a ponytail when I didn't want hair over my face.
Good luck!
BE PATIENT ! YOUR TIME WILL COME !
...consolation to you, I feel the SAME way. I've also been growing for 4 months and either wear a hat or gel. However, it sounds like you're one step ahead of me--I can't feel my hair move yet! In fact, I, like a few others on this board a few weeks ago, was looking into different pills I could take to speed things up. Just wanted to let you know that I feel your pain. We just need some patience. :)

I'm at 8 or 9 months, and my hair drives me nuts, but whenever i get down about it or feel like I cant do anything about it, I just picture what my hair will look like in a few months down the road - anyone now who thinks, "man that guys hair is a mess" will be very surprised at what it will look like come mid-2003. Hang in there! And make the best of the awkward stage - if your hair looks like a mess, let that be your style! I've had girls complement on my hair on days when I thought it was the worst Ive ever seen it! It's all about confidence man.
