I WAS READING SOME POSTS CONCERNING PEOPLE'S REACTIONS TOWARDS REMI'S CURRENT SITUATION ON HOW HE'S FACING DISCRIMINATION...I JUST WANTED TO SAY THAT I'M REALLY HAPPY TO SEE THAT ALL OF YOU ARE SUPPORTIVE OF OUR CAUSE, EXCEPT FOR ONE "OTHER PERSON" ON THIS BOARD! I'M GLAD EVERYONE ELSE TAKES THIS TO HEART!! REMAIN STRONG FOLKS!!!!- PHIL
Oh, bugger off, you bloody wanker...
LISTEN, DO US ALL A FAVOR AND LEAVE THIS BOARD. I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHY I WENT LIGHT ON YOU IN MY FIRST POST...I DON'T KNOW WHY I WAS SO POLITE TO A PIECE OF PLASTIC???. YOU ARE NOT WANTED HERE, SO GO AWAY!!! I COME TO THIS MESSAGE BOARD TO HEAR OUT "TRUE LONGHAIRS", NOT SOME FAKE LIKE YOU! SERIOUSLY, I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHY YOU BOTHER POSTING ON HERE, WHEN THESE ISSUES MORE THAN OBVIOUSLY DON'T CONCERN YOU???? IT'S PROBABLY TRUE THAT YOU'RE NOT EVEN A LONGHAIR TO BEGIN WITH!! YOU AND THAT OTHER DUMB GIRL ON HERE NEED TO FIND A SHORT-HAIRED BOARD, YOU'D BOTH FIT IN QUITE PERFECTLY!!
I don't recall seeing a photo of you, but Nyghtfall has posted some pics of himself on here - with mane - on and off for four years. He has a personal web page showing his long hair. He also used his name on here from time to time. I personally am convinced that he is real, and that he has "grown his membership card" for this group.
His personal view that having long hair is more a matter of fashion than personal identity is contrary to mine and to most of the others who post here, but it has been his consistent view for years and I respect him, and strongly support him, for standing up for what HE believes in.
Not all longhairs feel like you do, or I do, or Nyghtfall does. Longhairs are the most individualistic men on the planet. (You've got to be an individualist to survive the constant barrage of those who would have you cut, so if you go into the "grow it" project a conformist, chances are, you won't emerge as such with a mane two years down the pike.) If we're ever going to unite, we're going to have to accept the INDIVIDUALITY of individual longhairs. It comes with the territory as assuredly as do tangles. :-)
Make love, not war,
I can certainly understand your viewpoint and your position on this, Bill. I'm a make peace, not war hippie guy myself. I can even appreciate Nyghtfall's attitude. We're all different and we all need to accept that fact.
My problem here, however, is that people with Nyghtfall's attitude do more harm than good. How can anyone take a longhair's deep feelings and the fact that we identify ourselves with our hair very seriously if they see someone like this guy who has long hair but views it as a fashion statement? Why would he even identify himself as a "longhair" when he would willingly cut it for a job?
Who on this board can take this guy seriously when that's his attitude? The minute one of us here has a legitimate harassment or discrimination issue, we have to hear from this guy that we should just get over it. Why even have someone like that here at all? I define that as more harm than good.
I don't care if this guy has waist-length hair that is full of body and shine and has posted his pics for a decade. If his mentality is what it is, does any of that matter? I don't think so. I really wish his boss would tell him to cut his hair so he can at least quit pretending to be one of us because the fact is...he isn't!
You respect him for standing up for what he believes in. What does he believe in? Not what you or I or any "real longhair" does. His comments are like someone saying "I love America and consider myself American, but if my mommy told me to be Cuban, I'd do it." That's how I see it.
He is simply not what I consider to be a longhair. Just because you have a nice tent and great camping gear, it doesn't make you an outdoorsman if it never leaves your garage. Just because you have a great fishing pole and a nice boat, you aren't a fisherman if the boat sits on the driveway and you never use the pole. You may own a parachute, but if it sits there never used, you aren't a real skydiver. And the same goes for hair. Just because you have it, that doesn't mean you're a "longhair".
I support the individual feelings of everyone on this board. What I do NOT support is some guy here telling us our hair is a meaningless fashion statement and we experience trouble because of it it's OUR problem and OUR fault.
Just having long hair does not give you a "membership card". At least not in my opinion. Not when you see hair as a meaningless fashion statement that you are willing to toss out for a buck or two.
I didn`t know anout Nyghtfall until I read his post.
It`s true. It`s not really the fact of having long hair which matters, it`s the attitude, the sincerity.
If we are to win the war against discrimination, we need all the help we can get. Winning this war will help those guys as well as us; they are personally just not as committed to their hair to heavily invest in waging the fight. Those of us who do choose to take on this battle will get more support from them if we don't INSIST they join us in the trenches. You know darned well that none of them (except the deranged) would hope we lose this battle.
Why do you think that most opposition to the Viet Nam war started with YOUTH? Of course, it was because youth were being ORDERED to fight it. Some people did not want THAT MUCH commitment. Although refusing to fight showed some maturity, this did not stop them from being "youth". Similarly, if a longhair does not want to wage the war for longhair equality himself, this does not make him any less a longhair.
I agree. Telling either side they should be like the other is counterproductive.
When that day comes, he will deal with it. It may change how he feels and it may not. At least if "we" have won by then, he will have a choice. Longhairs such as he need to realize they have nothing to lose by hoping we win. If we are going to drag them into the fight kicking and screaming, they WILL feel they have something to lose. Which approach do you think is to get us a larger base of support? There are likely as many of them as us, if not more. We NEED that support.
Well, he is a male with long hair, and he is just as much a target for bigots as is any other longhair. I respect him for standing up for his beliefs a lot more than I respect a man whose beliefs shift as often as the wind. The man has character.
When the Nazis told the Jehovah's Witnesses to change certain beliefs or else, they went to camp. When the U.S. Army was about to tell the Mormons to, they had revelations of convenience. Though I may agree with the Mormon religion more, I respect the Witnesses a LOT more.
People with political convictions can be won. Fair weather friends are easier to find, but will they be with you when the storm hits?
And none of those men ever go into the outdoors, nor fish, nor skydive.
Every day Nyghtfall goes outside, he goes with his long hair. He gets the same treatment we all get. He is in our boat, not one sitting in his garage.
I agree. It is meaningless to some people (their assertion of that IS our problem - although if it truly were meaningless no one would ever say anything at all). It IS our problem because we are in the minority. Few CHOOSE to be "in a minority", we choose what is in our heart. If that puts us perchance in a minority, sticking with it is tougher, but if it means enough, we will. Maybe it's good someone point out on here once in a while that to some people long hair is a meaningless fashion statement - we need to be aware of that before we do battle on the outside. I agree that fact should not be thrust upon one person who at the time is needing support though. Both sides need to realize the depth of the conviction of the other side and respect others for the view they hold.
Well, when we win the anti-discrimination battle, they too will win. Let's do all we can to get them on our side. To do that, we have to accept whatever support, large or small, they are WILLING to lend. There are some homeless men on the street whose commitment to long hair is simply they don't have the money for a haircut. If a law says you cannot exclude a man with long hair, they too will benefit. Any man with long hair is in OUR boat whether he ever thinks about it or not. Let's just be aware all longhairs are not as politically enthusiastic about our cause and accept them to the extent they wish to be.
Bill,
Thanks for your insightful remarks. Truly no group wants to be persecuted. But those who stick to what they believe despite such persecution truly are to be admired.
Please stop shouting.
I`m glad to see it too. I wish such unity would spread to other countries as well.
Note that there`s no French long haired men site.
