i go to a christian high school. i wear a uniform. i have long hair. they tell me to cut it. i have a goatee. they tell me to shave it. whats the deal with that? didnt jesus have long hair and a beard? why is long hair and beards such a bad thing? anyways let me know what you think.
I assume you go to a private school. If they have you wear a uniform,its because they want everyone to look the same. No one out of line, just like in the army. They want "uniformity". These schools are also quite conservative, thus the short hair and no beard policy. I'm afaid you'll have to learn to live with their rules until you're out of there.
My high school years were from 1969 to 1974 and I also attended a private school. There was a no-long-hair policy until 1972 until the pressure from the students and even the parents became so great on the administrators that they had to bend the rules. You should see my 1974 graduation year book, we ALL have long hair! I remember even the newscaster on the evening news had hair to the collar, hiding his ears. Man those were the days...

No, he word is more accurately :"dishonor" [atimia] which literally means UN-value...
(the SAME exact word is used of 'piss pot'...
so maybe we don't like piss pots...but sometimes we need one, right?!)
Maybe 'UNvalued' (or not respected) meant something different back then...
TOday it's a completely different story.

And God had the Nazarites grow long hair to show their dedication...
(I'm not religious, so I'm not exactly an expert on this. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.)
You are correct that Paul wrote it...
but Christians usually believe he was inspired to do it...anyway...
the point is that when a 'religious' person *attacks* you with
that quote...you can always throw the quote right back at them...

influence by society. in my opinion, (and this is horribly summarized; very much can be written about it.) everyone uses faulty logic to rationalize what they feel. similarly, values decided upon can be changed by outside influence.
so
if one thing is right, and
if they, for whatever reason, want anything else, whether they should or not,
then they may very well go for it rather than what they should go for.
i had the same thing happen. why do you think they want you to have short hair and shave? (maybe you should email me, if you want to respond, rather than post.)

Blah, blah, blah... And the Bible also states that "NO RAZOR SHALL TOUCH THE HEAD OF THE RIGHTOUS". So, interpret it any way you like. In the end, it's what we all do anyway. Personally, I say let them talk all they want. Until they physically held me down and cut my hair (for which I would press charges) not a single hair of my head would be touched. Oh yeah, by the way, I thought that Jesus was supposed to love everybody, just the way they are. Don't kid yourself, this isn't about religion at all. It's about control. The only thing you need to ask yourself is this; Who is in control of you?
Go to a real school
I think they just don't want anyone standing out. Try putting it in a ponytail and tucking it down your shirt if length permits.
