Alright pretty simple question. I have shoulderlength brown hair (I don't have a digital camera to take pics or I would) and I was wondering if I put blond highlights in it, would that be umm... effeminate at all? I just am curious since I don't know if I've ever seen a longhair guy with highlights (highlights that actually contrast, like darker brown and lighter blond, which I think are extremely hot on girls and rare enough on them too, maybe that's why I like the idea of them)

I think natural highlights and varations are very nice...but...
when done with artificial colorings & bleaches, etc...
only the most professional stylists...artists,almost...
...can make it look natural and right...
Maybe you could have them put in a temporary dye or something?
Do what you like but...
be careful!
I can't stand the look of bleached or highlighted hair. And it's definitely not rare on girls... there are far too many girls here that have it. Probably the majority.
I suggest keeping your natural colour.
your hair sounds liek mine except mine's curly, but I always wanted to have red highlights in them. I say go for it. You grew your hair out so have fun with it!
have fun!
I think that part of the fun of having long hair is being able to express yourself by doing different things with it. I say go for it!

Right on! Go for what YOU like. Be yourself. You might feel a bit uncomfortable at first but the inhibition will vanish in a very short time. You'll be glad you had the guts...and it's very good for self esteem and self confidence. You'll feel like you're your own man.
if anyone remembers the band stabbing westward, the lead singer had brown and blond highlighted hair at one point. imo it looked a little funny, but he pulled it off. if you do this, make sure you have a bottle of darker dye standing by in case you dont like it and want to go back!
I've had mine (getting to mid-back) highlighted for two years now, and my stylist has been using several shades of blonde colour (pale/caramel and one in between) to get dimensional effects. Haven't had any negative comments at all, only positive. The secret is to get a good colourist who knows what s/he is doing and it's completely natural. Last time she added a little more caramel to warm it up for winter.
As far as highlights go, I say go for it!
Just be sure that the stylist you choose is well versed in the process, since many are not.
In my opinion, highlights (this is on girls, since I see very few guys with highlighted hair) look really good when they're small, and barely noticeable, or thick, chunky and obviously meant to be that way (think the reverse of Christina Aguilera's new style).
That's just my $.02, though.
Good luck what ever you choose.
Had a guy in my history class over summer with medium brown hair and red and blond streaks. Looked really kewl, but I wouldn't do it. First because of damage, second because of my hair type, and third, because I have blond hair already and straeking in color is my only option... I have natural platinum streaks on my golden hair, anyway...
