I have been grwoing my hair for five years. Had to go through all the hassles of growing it out along with all the teasing from the men who are balding at work. I am the only male professinal with long hair. My hair is 30 inches long down to the middle of my back all one length. Its dark brown and cut straight across my back. My girlfriend loves it. Her hair is long as well. My goal is to grow it well past my waste but it seems that it has stopped growing. I have it trimmed every 3 months. Just had it trimmed last week. They took 2 inches off. I think that is too much. Thats 6 months growth. I thought I would only go to a hairdresser three times per year. Any suggestions at to growth and keeping it healthy? I could trim it myself just the ends. I have a lot of hair but its thin. I am not balding. No history of balding in my family. I wear it in a ponytail or braided. Would love to french braid it but don't have the nerve to wear it out like that yet. I guess its the macho thing. I was encourged a year ago by a female hairdresser who said many men are wearing their hair that way. She french braided it and I love it but felt embarrassed at the same time. I have not seen any men with that hairsytle. Sooo my question is growth and style.
well, first of all, 30 inches is a nice head of hair... tho your hair may have reached its terminal length... that is, the cycle for you is to grow to around 30" then fall out & the cycle starts over. spend some time going thru the msgs on this board, there's a wealth of info about hair care.... keeping it healthy etc. good luck.
If you haven't already, read the last paragraph of the message re:Hitting a wall I posted... It may help explain things a bit. Let's explore in more detail:
French braids are one of the most fantastic things you can do with your hair... I think on women they're one of the sexiest things they can wear, and many, many, women think the same thing about men. French braids are one of the most versatile styles a longhair can wear -- it's sexy, smooth, professional, graceful, refined, fun, easy, and so much more all in one. It takes only minutes (once you've got the knack) and looks very well cared-for altogether.
Ever notice how some girls can just throw their hair up (like in a sports bun) and still look soooooo attractive? Even though it's just a quick way to get the hair out of the way, you can still make it look great by taking a moment to make thing fall correctly, etc. French braids do that by their very nature. It took me a long time to wear my first french braid in public, too, but I wouldn't live without it now. It's a staple in my corporate-world hairstyle. Wear it with confidence. Realize that when people look/stare/smile at you, it's most likely because they LIKE what they see, not otherwise. Take each "look how he's wearing his hair" as a compliment -- it certainly should be. You've got character and determination for going against the flow. You're comfortable with who you are. And you're sure you have this awesome mane that would make a lion jealous. Well-kept long hair says a lot about you, and nothing, I think, epitomizes that more than a well-done french braid. People are attracted to people with confidence and character (not just sexually, but in general), and having long hair in my experience helps you develop those beautifully.
I agree about the thoughts on French braids although I have not
been able to figure out how to do my own. I do like to wear my
hair different ways though. Little braids in the front when I wear
my hair down are another favorite. I also because its easy wear
my hair in pig tails. I can get variety out of this by braiding them,
wearing them hight above my ears or low below the ears.
Need more styles though!
The length that your hair can grow to is genetic. Some people can grow their hair very long, adn others can't get it below their shoulders
