I've been inspired by the progress pictures and information on this
hyperboard so it is only fair that I post my six-month progress
pictures that I took today. I started with a short military-style
cut. I had one trim last September to even out the mullet I was
developing. The trim was a bad idea, but that is a topic for another
thread. I have been slicking my hair back with gel but today I
decided to try without gel. It looks a little ragged on the sides but
I might wear it like this from now on (maybe a bit of gel in the
front). The biggest surprise is that I always thought I had very
straight hair. It turns out I have quite a bit of wave!
The pictures are here (the last one is the linked image):

Looking good!
...from a military-style? Good choice--keep growing!! With that wave pattern and adhering to your natural part you are going to develop an awesome head of hair, an awesome image! All the best!
How many months ago was it at the military cut stage?
You have thick & shiny textured hair. Great!
L
My hair was sort of dtraight when it was shorter,
but now I have waves.
Funny the things you discover as hair gets longer and LONGer!
Good Luck on your next 6 months!
Oh that isn't ragged. You should see what the curly monthers look like, like me. I'd be blessed to have hair looking like that in the 6 monther stage.

Always nice to see someone else using pgp. I'm not using it these days but have in the past and probably will in the future :-)

Thank you to everyone who replied for the encouragement. It really
helps. I hope my pictures will inspire others who are just starting
their hair growing adventure.
Some questions came up in the replies and I will address them here. I
turned forty this year. I have been wearing my hair short for twenty
three years. I joined the Canadian army at age seventeen and wore my
hair short ever since (even after I left the military). Before that,
as a teenager in the mid-seventies, I had to conform to my private
school's dress code. It was actually quite reasonable, the hair had
to be above the bottom of the collar in the back and be above the
bottom of the earlobe on the sides. In other words, I am still about
a month or two away from having the longest hair of my life. Of
course we wore our hair quite differently back then, all feathered on
the sides, puffed up, and held with either hairspray or this new
stuff "mousse" (a forerunner of hair gel). (Young folks can look at
the vintage BeeGees pictures on the news this week to see the look I
was after).
My genuine surprise at the wave in my hair comes from my eternal
teenage battle to get my hair "just so" with a blow dryer and brush
while my dad was pounding on the bathroom door trying to get me
moving. I had probably just ruined the natural wave in my hair and
was left with the incorrect impression that it was razor straight.
When I started growing my hair last June it was just long enough to
part (on the side). In the summer I typically buzz my hair off
myself. This year for some reason I let it grow. In August I turned
forty and did a little reflection. I realised that I had been wearing
my hair more-or-less the same for over half my life and had always
wanted to have long hair. Hence the decision to grow my hair. This
hyperboard has really, really helped me. Until just a couple of weeks
ago my hair was really looking bad and it was a lot of hassle to keep
it going. I perservered because of the information I got from this
forum and now I am starting to see the positive results. When people
ask what my hair goal is I tell them "I am going to have 'rock star'
hair". I don't know that that means but it shuts them up :). It is a
journey, not a destination. I know where I want to go and I will
recognize the place when I see it.

Hey! That's a GREAT story you shared with this Board!
So this is really your first time in your life that you
are heading for your Goal of being a Longhair!
Glad you kept your dream alive and that you are now well
on your way to being there!
Good Luck!
Lookin good! My lenghth is very similar to yours right now. I, too, having been growing for 6 months and started from a military-length haircut.
Your hair's gonna look awesome as it gets longer. Especially with the beard.
This is progress? When are you going to have long hair? You look like a conservative Republican. You call this hair? Start growin' it, boy.

LOL, if it looks like a conservative republican now, you should have
seen it *before* I started growing it! I looked like a Ross Perot
groupie. I have renounced my evil short-haired ways and I'm growing
as fast as I can... maybe I'll check that hair growth vitamin thread
to see if anyone found a magic potion to make hair grow like crazy.
