In the fall of 2001 I was contacted by lady who was attracted by my picture on my Yahoo profile - http://profiles.yahoo.com/nick_longhair We began exchanging e-mails, then we spent hours at a time on the instant messenger and then finally we met when I was in the US for three weeks in September 2002. Our time spent together ended with a beginning: we decided to tie the knot and now I am preparing to relocate from Denmark to the other side of the big pond, in New England. The fact that I have long hair and beard has been a decisive factor in what happened...

I can honestly say I have never had a similiar experience. :)
Same deal happened to me. I'm 58, hair down to my tail end. Lady saw my profile on Yahoo (or was it AOL?) either way, we started emailing, then calling, then dating. She lived down in the Phoenix Metro area and I lived 300 miles north in the Arizona canyonlands.
We burned up a lot of gas. Last year she moved up here and we bought a house together. Lovely lady.
A partial cause of her attraction to me is that she loves men with long hair and beards....
