I'd really like to grow my hair long. I haven't due to hearing little stories of long hair speeding up balding. Is this true? I've only managed to get my hair chin length before this really got to me. I can't grow my hair without this naggin at me.
as far as i know, that is a myth... your hair will fall out the same rate as before, it'll be more apparent in your shower drain & brush because the hair that's falling out is longer.
But be aware hair strands also have a lifetime and fall out, even if you don't have male pattern baldness. In that case a new hair will grow in its place. This should be mentioned lest some poor longhair see the above and think every hair in his shower drain is one that is "falling out" for good!
Because every inch of hair you grow will eventually fall out (usually to be replaced !! but it nevertheless will fall out), this means all the stuff you used to leave on the floor at the barbershop will, now that you're a longhair, be left in other places you spend a lot of time in, and in the shower drain.
Hey, I enjoy my sheddings! They mark my territory. (((grin)))
I wouldn't worry; length of hair does not cause it to fall out. Like John said, it's just more noticeable when longer, which is probably how the myth started. If a man inherits male-pattern baldness, it's going to happen to him now matter what he does with is hair lengthwise.
