I've got shoulder length VERY thick dark brown wavy hair. I love to mess around with it by putting henna in it and trying new things. The salon I go to now does OK but the last time I went in we decided to do a highlight - I wanted some natural reds and browns added in and ended up with blonde streaks! EEEH GADS! She toned it down with some semi permanent but I don't think I want to go back.
Does anyone have any suggestions for where a man can go and get the same kind of pampering for his long hair that a woman can get in the San Francisco Bay area? My hair is mostly one lenght right now and I'd like to try a new style but I'm not sure what to try. I love the thought of a bob with bangs but I know it wouldn't look as good as I fantasize because my wavy hair tends to fro out and I need to look professional during the day?
Help! Any suggestions?
the fewer chemicals (dyes, etc.) you put in your hair the better off the hair will be. also... better make up your mind b4 going to whatever salon you choose- as opposed to 'not being sure what (hairstyle) to try'-- and letting the salon make your decision for you.
unless you control your hair with alot of goop, you probably have a couple basic options... 1)-allow your hair to grow long enough to stay tied back in a ponytail... or 2)-cut the front & sides short while allowing the back to grow... looks bad-ass in a stylish suit; but requires regular & competent maintenance. you might also consider cornrow braiding... tho that might frowned upon in certain white collar circles.
Definitely, Yosh for Hair on Maiden Lane. I trust mine to them - They're fantastic!
Hi Dave,
It sounds like what you want is low-lights, not high-lights.
Low-lights are the darker colours added to your hair in the same way
high-lights are, to add depth and richness to your hair. High-lights are the lighter colours added to your hair. So, when you
asked for high-lights, that is why you got blond streaks.
As far as a stylist in SF goes, befor I moved to Europe, I lived in SF, and I absolutely swear by Architects & Heros on Bush St. I went to Laura. A&H's colourists are among the best in the city, and surprisingly well priced, (although Laura did charge $60 for a cut and style, but then again, she is a senior stylist).
Avoid Vidal Sassoon in SF. Their colourists aren't as good, their student cutters are butchers, and they are over-priced.
Yeo's on upper Haight was good for a cut, but not for colour. They are much less expensive, but the quality of service lacks.
I've heard good things about Angles and Cowboys, but haven't had any personal experience with them. Stephen Saize (sp?) at Union Square also has a very good reputation, as does Yosh, but my best experiences have all been at Architechts & Heros on Bush. (The Fillmore St. location is also good, but tends to be less long-haired-male capable and more interested in being trendy). Another good salon is Wing on Union St., but they are better at shorter styles, although very able.
Good luck, and let us know how things work out.
