Ive been growing my hair out with hopes that the longer it gets the mory wavy or curly it will get. Well...Im at about 4-5 inches and its not. I've even been not washing it with more hopes that it will get thicker and wave up a bit. Is a perm the only answer? I really dont think i want to go down that route.
Haha, everyone wants what they don't have. I have thick and wavy hair and wish I didn't. Not because I don't like the wave or curl, but because the wavier your hair is the frizzier it is and harder to control, ack, I hate frizz!
Yeah go ahead and get the perm..just explain what you want..that you want waves not a tight frizzy perm and you should be fine....if your hair is really straight, that is how it will be unless you get chemical curls...or you could set it for curls, but even that will not last...so go get a perm.

I think you should follow your instinct to avoid getting a perm. The chemicals damage your hair, and if the stylist doesn't do what you want, you're stuck with it.
Here's something else to try. After you wash your hair and it's still a little damp, braid your hair and let it dry that way. When you take it out the the braid later it should have waves in it.

Nope. Do what the girls have been doing for years: use a curling iron, or just plain curlers.
Well you might simply have to wait...I've always had my hair straight, when it was short (I call short anything below 6 inches) it was just straight. Now that its 12 inches its extra wavy, especially in the back and even after I just washed the hair. I just needed to wait for it!
Should it be little braids or huge thick ones?
My friend who does it makes one big braid down the center of his back. But you can try different things and see how you like the results.
