I wrote a reply, or actually a question about not washing hair daily, but it is so far down I wasn't sure you would see it. How can you avoid oily scalp odor if you only use lukewarm water instead of shampoo? My scalp tends to sweat a lot especially in this hot weather and if I don't wash it everyday I feel icky!! Please advise.

I think your question was directed to me, not KL, so I'll answer it.
Scalp oil does have a mild sweet aroma. I've had friends take a sniff of mine, and the most common comment is that it smells "like freshly washed hair". It is not, on me at least, an objectionable odor like under one's arms, for instance. But people's body chemistries can be different. I had a college roommate whose feet stunk to high heaven no matter what he tried to do about it, while mine never do.
Maybe you do have an odor problem with your scalp. Maybe you're just used to a soapy smell, flowery smell, or whatever, and you miss it. Whatever, you have to take your own feelings into account. But keep in mind, the more often you wash, the more your hair will suffer. The more chemicals you put on your hair, the more it will suffer. So try to balance things, to compromise.
