I just started on Propecia tonite. No significant hair loss so far, except a little on rear crown, but don't want to lose what I am striving to keep.
Several questions:
1. What are your results?
2. Propecia inhibits the DHT component of testosterone. Will my hair change in texture over time, i.e. more like a female's texture?
3. Anyone had the side effects associated with the stuff?
Thanks in advance!
Mike,
I unfortunately am unable to help you in your quest. I am however interested in your progress on propecia. I, myself, have a little, very little, hair loss on the rear crown. In February, '98 I decided to stop having my hair cut. My hair is VERY FINE and breaks easily. I hope to at least achieve a length below my shoulders. My progess has been positivet to date, although I am in that weird hair lenght stage. I have wondered if propecia might positively affect the follicle size of my hair making it a little less fine and stronger. Please post any updates!! Hey, if anyone has suggestions for me, please post also...
Thanks.
I have used Rogaine since 1989. I am almost 50. In February, I began on Propecia (as 1/4 tablet of Proscar until the Propecia was actually released this winter (by then I had 1 year of experience with it.
My hair is about 9 inches long now, poker straight and much softer and more manageable- but I am using the 5% Rogaine and the propecia together so I can not scientifically tell you which is doing what. I have expereienced some decrease in libido and find most of the people I have spoken to that had it do experience some decrease in libido although it is reported as only about 2-3% incidence enough to stop the medicine. It has really increased both the fullness and filled in the thin spots especially on the crown. I have had no other side effects. I still recommend it to anyone who feels that hair loss is a significant item in their way they feel about themselves. You may EMail me for any further information- both anecdotal or medical. JL
Thanks guys,
I'll be and keep you informed on progress. Really frustrated to learn that one of the side effects of the BP medicine I was on is alopecia! Couldn't figure out why I was getting a little thinner on top - went to doc and changed to diuretic because of other side effects! Then I find that another side effect is alopecia!!! Glad I'm off that stuff. Anybody else on Zestril - check it out. That fact isn't really published till you start getting into the heavy reading on it!
been on proscar (propecia) for about 1 year. One big problem though is that you go through a few shedding cycles. The draw back is when you shed some of that long hair you bum because it took so long to get to that length in the first place. Go to the newsgroup: alt.baldspot where you can get more info.
Yes, I have been using it for the past year. Not a big change. It's made my hair stronger and more body, but have not seen much new growth. I stopped taking the pill for just one month and I saw signifigant hair loss!
