start over after they regret having an undercut? This makes absolutely no sense to me yet I've seen lots of people do it. You have two options if you don't like an undercut:
A. Just let it grow back out. You won't be able to tie it back for a long time but you can still wear it down and it will look as if nothing is wrong (if you want it to be even you would have to trim the current long hair every few weeks but it's no big deal.. you still look like a longhair)
B. You can cut it all off. You won't be able to tie it back for a long time but you can still wear it down but now you will be in the awkward stage so it will look really bad.
Am i the only one who thinks choice B is a horrible choice???? I've heard the excuse that if you just grow it back out you won't be able to tie it back... but if you cut it all off you won't be able to tie it back either AND you have to go through another awkward stage.
I totally agree that choice B is a horrible thing, but that is what I did. My hair was looking terrible to me no matter what choice I made, so I just waited untill the undercut part was at a decent length to layer everything above into it. I never really could get a decent ponytail even before I screwed it up, so that was never really a deciding factor in my choice. I do still have bangs that reach the underpart of my nose. There still is a little upper length hanging over the lower half around my head but not enough to make it look too goofy. Anyway, in a nutshell, I am back at square one with my hair with renewed, and I believe stronger, determination to succeed this time at all cost! Give me a year and I should at least be back to before I made my big mistake. Good post, by the way. Take care!
No matter how long you grow the undercut out, it will never catch up with the rest of your hair. And while the undercut is growing, it's in the "awkward atage" while the rest of your hair isn't.
In addition, when growing, you see the distinctive difference in lengths. It almost looks like a really bad layer cut. It's hard to describe.
I can assume you've never seen anyone who got an undercut in the middle of growing it back out. I have. I know a few people who tried to grow the undercut out. They eventually all gave up because it really looks bad. It looks like you got either a bad haircut (believe me, the undercut growth is obvious) or that you tried trimming your hair yourself.
It will look as if something is wrong. There will be an obvious, and very noticeable shorter layer of hair. Really looks bad. Hard to describe it. You have to see for yourself.

The bottom line is that an undercut really is never a good idea. Looks bad on long hair and even worse when you're dealing with short hair. If you're going to have long hair, just have long hair. Period.

I agree with A. It is only common sense. But that sometimes is a
rare commodity.
I would pick A. My awkward stage was horrible and if I had a choice
I'd much rather go through 1/5 of an awkward stage instead of a whole
one.
I have to say that A is not a bad choice! That's what I did when I decided to grow out my (very extreme) undercut. I didn't even get maintenance trims during that time, I just let it all grow.
It's not exactly the same length, but it's not noticable at all, and I was able to pull it all back after a few months.
During the growing out period, I just kept it pulled back (the longer parts) and used "hair glue" (actual product name) to hold down the short parts.
Not saying that's the way for everyone, but it worked GREAT for me, since there was NO WAY I was going to cut off 3 years of decent looking hair just to grow out my undercut.
I don't mean to be a prick here, but is anyone else tired as hell of hearing about undercuts!?
